I'd say you aren't this stupid, but based on your views during the whole pandemic, I'm not so sure

Appropriate person to correct that.

I'd try to have a halfway meaningful back and forth with you since it is a fun topic, but I have seen you die on much smaller hills.

There's nothing meaningful for you to say. You know this is an extremely special circumstance unlikely to ever happen again in our life time.

Go watch the latest Vinwiki episode and it will be easy to understand.

You’re absolutely correct. No need for an asterisk. The whole point of these things are to take advantage of opportunities to go as fast as possible. Breaking every law on the road known. They did it and won. For now.

Saw it. Ed has a problem with the previous record as well.

How they managed to have the plan in place and went after it in quick order is impressive as well.

The banter is what makes part of the fun. Hopefully the new record holders are good spirited and play the part.

The no traffic was worth less than an hour. Which is surprising.

I tend to agree, modern CBR records are set with planning and exceptional luck. Does a team that breaks the record with perfect weather coast to coast get an asterisk when the former record-holding team had to fight through hours of heavy storms in the midwest?

New stretches of interstate are always added as well. The previous record holder was able to take advantage of that.

I like that Ed put out a blueprint for the run during quarantine.

How many miles is it from the Red Ball Garage to the hotel in Redondo?

Those are the ones that had an entire team of spotters in front of them plus teams of people waiting for them at gas stations to pump their gas.

I made it from Downtown Atlanta to Long Beach, MS in 3 hours, 50 minutes once. Left Atlanta right at 5PM, too.

I agree with Ed that it has the potential to ruin the chase.

It's not about the record, it's about chasing the record.

Having a million spotters and having good weather and having people stationed along the way to pump your gas for you can generally be repeated. While the weather isn't in their power, it's not terribly inconceivable to make an attempt and not hit any rain.

A team won't be able to repeat these conditions in the future, because it's highly, highly unlikely something like this happens again. It doesn't break any rules because there are no rules. But I agree with Ed that it kinda flies in the face of the spirit of the thing.

ETA: Then again, the auto racing record books are chock full of "cheaters" and "rule benders" and opportunists.
