Your map lets you down.
1300s, the English took Ireland by force. During Henry 8, and thereafter, being catholic in Ireland meant no civil rights. . The treatment of Catholics became the seeds of the 1916 uprising in Ireland and then winning freedom for most counties in 1922. The 6 counties in the northeast remained contentious where protestant workers had been brought in from Scotland and Wales.
Owning countries became trouble when 1947 India resisted.
Some on your map used guns to get their rights.
Let my people go.
You celebrate owning countries by force. Disgusting.

The world wars broke Britain and Europe on not just a financial but a cultural level. Many were disillusioned with the thought of fighting for anything. Decay crept in from there.
As someone else pointed out, imagine a generation of kids raised without fathers or just strong male leadership in general. It's really no wonder they turned out like they did.
I think we're only just starting to witness the flicker of life in parts of Europe once more. It's no secret that Germany is resurgent (the resilience of that people is admirable), but the Brexit was an act of independence that I really hadn't expected to see just yet.
I think the horror of the wars is finally becoming removed enough for the continent to wake from its comatose state. I expect to see more fight in them as time progresses.

Laughable. Like those countries aren’t ruled by force today.
I’d say some were better off when the force was stiff upper lip brits.

Virtually every country on Earth was conquered by force at some point.

The United Kingdom of today:
-Has institutionalized CCTV to a degree where a person's daily movements are tracked to a degree that would make Americans, especially rural Americans, absolutely livid.
-Has some of the Western world's broadest speech codes, which criminalize the very kind of speech that we often engage in on this very website.
-Has a legal system that now allows for doctors, who are part and parcel of a government-run health care service, to deny treatment for a child when the parents desire it and a third-party is willing to pay for it.
-Has an intelligence service in MI5 whose spying and data collection powers eclipse the NSA's powers here in America after a sweeping law was passed in the House of Commons in 2015.
These don't even mention the problems the U.K. has had with 2nd and even 3rd generation Muslims assimilating. Look at the East End and South London. Places like Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham and Southwark. These are traditionally Cockney strongholds that now look more like Bangladesh or Pakistan. I mean I saw a stat the other day that in Tower Hamlets and Newham less than 20% of school children were white British.
It's the same in places like Slough and Leicester, where the white British population is now less than 50% of the population. And in places like Oldham, Blackburn, Bradford and other industrial towns in the North of England with huge Muslim populations, you essentially have completely segregated neighborhoods.
Since the end of WW2, the English specifically have associated nationalism with racism, largely because of groups like the National Front, the BNP, soccer hooligans and, more recently, the EDL, all of whom have espoused various forms of nationalism accompanied by outwardly racist attitudes. Many English people therefore associate nationalism with racism. I think Nigel Farage and Brexit woke a lot of people up, but UKIP and the Liberal Democrats have become so marginalized in the House of Commons I don't think the two-party stranglehold the Tories and Labour have on Westminster will be stopped any time soon.

The Irish backed into independence and promptly begin infighting like a bunch of ungovernable clans.
Shocker why the Anglos had to keep them all from killing each other.
Eamon de Valera is a perfect example why Ireland lagged the world for so long. As an economy and as a civilized nation. The murder of Michael Collins case in point.

One of the strongest arguments in political theory is that of the opposing pendulum.
The farther the pendulum swings in either direction, it will swing further still on its return. The roaring 20s gave birth to the 50s. The 50s gave birth to the 60s, the 60s birthed the 70s, 80s, and 90s... Which birthed the W era. Which lead to Obama and where we are now.
The next swing back is going to be...rough. There will be zealotry with unlikely allies. A lot of hate groups will find themselves suddenly overflowing with members.
On one side, a braided flower crown worn by those being constantly attacked, defiled and raped by their allies.
On the other, hawkishness. Those who espouse personal responsibility.
There will be white hate groups, a lot of the old black panther party, Catholics, protestants, neo Nazis, Jews, Asians, Indians. The lot.
Color lines only matter to one side.
War is coming in our lifetime.
And, as so frequently happens in the last two centuries, look for US, Germany, and Japan to start it.
It sounds crazy, but this has been inevitable since Germany took control of EU banking practices. But no one could have foreseen the weak stance they would have on anything not German.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing that the British empire is gone. It’s was unsustainable anyway and, yes, people should be free.
What’s appalling is that the British aren’t sustaining their own country. via birth rates and immigration, the demographics are changing for the worse. Granted, I think they’re doing better on that front than France and Germany. Merkel is actively trying to destroy Germany and the German people seem satisfied about it.

To be fair, the US pretty much gave their empire the coup de grâce with the lend lease act
