Couldn’t he just get a roommate?
Given all the other benefits, you can sacrifice the tax break and get the other 29 without getting married. He should do that.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (also simply known as Chuck & Larry) is a 2007 American buddy comedy film directed by Dennis Dugan. It stars Adam Sandler and Kevin James as the title characters Chuck and Larry, respectively, two New York City firefighters who pretend to be a gay couple in order to ensure one of their children can receive healthcare; however, things go from bad to worse when an agent decides to verify their story. The film was released in the United States on July 20, 2007, and was Sandler's first role in a Universal Pictures film since Bulletproof in 1996. It grossed $187.1 million against an $85 million budget, but received generally negative reviews from critics. The movie's basic theme was later adapted in India as Dostana.

The biggest perk is the fact you no longer have to feel guilty about causing Bros to bomb at the box office.

and not a whole lot for being married either
Unless you will make out from the divorce statistically getting married is a horrible "benefit"
Those lawyer fees are your tax savings way past gone
Go play roulette instead of getting married. Save you a lot of time and money.

I agree- there's no real tax break. The real benefit I see is if dude 1 had great insurance he could add dude 2 and dude 2 could drop his; that could be a real savings. I also think the dual income is very helpful, but like others have said, a roommate gets you that.

Wanting that tax benefit, baw.
Not only that, you can also get health benefits for your new life partner. You can pick which employer has the best benefits and get health insurance with that employer.
One has a government job, the new "husband" has spousal retirement benefits for the rest of their life if they pass before the other.
So wierd arrangements are not that bad.
Didn't a former women's basketball coach name her son as the beneficiary to her retirement benefits? When she passed he was in his 20's and would get a retirement check for the rest of his life.
