What’s up baws? Phones have been non existent or spotty the last few days. Internet just came up.

We are good, been working our asses off cleaning up. I was lucky to have minimal roof damage, like 5 shingles. Neighbors all pretty much need new roofs. Been working at my brother’s house in Houma tearing out Sheetrock and insulation. He has a giant pine tree leaning over his house that needs to come down soon, but getting a tree cutter to actually show up has been a pain.

Mom’s house has water damage and needs a new roof, other 2 siblings have mild to moderate damage.

No clue how everyone else fared, lost internet the night of the storm and phones Monday morning. I know there were other areas besides us that got hit hard

Going by the satellite images, alot of the damage in Houma looks "meso-vorty", more akin to tornado damage. I haven't looked at all of it, of course, but it doesn't look like everything knocked down or trees laid over like you see with constant hurricane winds. There's plenty of that, too, but what you see is one house or building destroyed with a lofted debris path. Then, damage that isn't quite as bad with stuff still standing.

It looks more random than you usually see with powerful hurricanes. Judging by radar, and even satellite imagery, we know mesos were prevalent at that time during the storm. I believe a lot of that damage can be traced to them.

Ah. It ran just to your west, as you would imagine by your experience. It was rough there going up eastern Livingston and western Tangi.

After the wobble east early it followed the path expected.

How is everything down your way, other than just fricked up?

River parishes and then far east ascension/livingston and the Hammond area got the worst.

LaPlace got a ton of water and there were some roof rescues.

Drone footage from the island

Not sure if already posted but drone footage shows the severity of damage way better than other videos. It’s bad bad

The eye jogged around us in Thib. Don’t know if it was enough make a huge difference, it was 7 or so hours of all hell breaking loose. You can tell Houma got it worse, but it’s not as clear cut. I think the only advantage we have is we have water (boil water advisory) and they have 0 pressure. Everything is a fricking mess

It was enough to have you in the best shape of any town in your area.

I also suspect the damage in Houma is going to be more random. Just some buildings wiped out and other similar ones spared. It looked very tornadoy in that eyewall over Houma.

Like I said, it’s hard to tell. Biggest clue is the level of roof damage. Tree and power line damage is roughly the same between Thib and northern Houma. I have friends in Bourg that got destroyed

As you go south into Houma and beyond I bet it becomes a whole lot more obvious.

Called my brother around 5ish I guess during. Sounded like a freight train outside his house. He was asking when the eye would pass over so they could get a break. The last radar he was able to see had the eye passing over them. Had to tell him he wasn’t even halfway thru yet and there would be no eye for him

Oh and to be clear, when I say you got "lucky" in Thibodaux it is very relative to the area. The whole area has been hit like Lake Charles did post Laura.

It means Thibodaux will be a central hub of the recovery for the bayou parishes, but I know its going to be a long road to normal there too.

Yeah I know we did get lucky, but lucky is a relative term. We came in 2nd in the ugly contest

We were on the eastern side of the second eye wall or whatever local channels were calling it but that wind and the sound it made was next level especially at night. Hurricane Katrina was a day time storm and we were in a solid brick structure with no trees around and I was never afraid for my family, that wasn’t the case Sunday night. That little eastern jog it made while on land made a huge difference for the north shore and I’m pretty sure I scared my 8 year old son for life because we were here.
