Things are probably getting dicey in the Jacksonville area with the St. John's now at the 2nd highest level ever. Only the Hurricane of 1898 produced higher water levels.

No we are still going to die but just not from this storm.

I second that sentiment!

Tell that to the 1,000+ (number still rising in Haiti) people that have been killed so far by this system.

Neighbor texted that he stopped a truckful of youthful looters in my driveway by Jacksonville. Stay vigilant people.

This storm should break the records there. I think it was on Jeff Masters blog that he talked about this being a greater than 1/500 flood event for NE Florida.

So is the conventional wisdom now that Florida is getting it bad, but has dodged the bullet as far as major disaster, but SC is about to take it in the shorts?
And everyone was blasting Gov. Haley. She might turn out to the the most correct out of everyone.

Right now this is one of my top concerns and why I am going back when we can

Just heard that Jax pier is flooded (crazy to think about) and waves are crashing over the dunes. I am praying somehow this water doesn't rise exponentially.

I live three blocks from the pier
I'm a little concerned

I have already seen dune picks that showed breaches

I am heading back from Tallahassee, leaving in about 3 hours. I'll walk over the bridge if I have to.

Here's a live cam at Safe Harbor seafood market in Mayport right on the St. Johns. Doubt this place makes it...love eating there
