That SRO should be forced to look all those families who lost loved ones there in the eyes and apologize.

He should drink a fifth of scotch and take a bottle of sleeping pills.

While what he did was certainly wrong and he should be dismissed it is also easy to sit behind a keyboard and call him a pussy when no one in this thread was standing in his shoes. All claiming they would charge the suspect really don’t know truly if they would.

Hero fantasies meet the reality of confronting a guy armed with an AR15. Until you are in the same situation, you have no idea what you would do.This guy was SRO of the year a couple of years ago. Now a pariah.

The problem with this method is sometimes you just have a really good time.

That’s messed up.
I mean it’s easier said then done to just put yourself in harms way. But don’t sign up for a job where you’re supposed to protect and can’t do it when shite hits the fan.

So an armed officer was too much of a pussy to do anything?

I get that view.
But I can't imagine an armed grown man standing outside knowing every shot you hear could be a kid dying and you don't have enough in you to try to stop the shooter.
That isn't being a keyboard Badass. It's being a responsible man.

Guaranteed this guy had previous problems on the job so they stuck him at that school so he wouldn’t be on the street. Lo and behold, that decision fricked them. If they determine the guy had prior problems and they hid him away instead of firing him, I hope the Sheriff burns.

And, I come here tonight with 39 years in law enforcement. I baker acted people, I've taken weapons from people. The men and women I've worked with for almost 40 years, we know how to keep America safe.
What a lying piece of shite. His own officer didn't have the balls to go in and he wants to lecture us about what policies we should implement. frick him.

I used to work in a sector that dealt with k12 schools and most often thing I heard was the school resource officer was nothing more than a hall monitor that the local pd wanted to get off the streets.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel This guy looks and sounds like a buffoon. Can't imagine the level of deputies there.

The sheriff just said the office was posted up outside for 4 mins. The officer resigned.

This is one of those weird zero sum games where he was either going to be a hero and maybe die or a pussy and live.
We know what he chose.

Not only does this guy need to live with the consequences of his inaction, but he also has to deal with the fact that 15 y/o Asian ROTC cadet had bigger balls than he does. I almost feel bad for this poor schmuck.
About 25 or 30 years ago, a bank was robbed out on Michoud Blvd around lunchtime. The branch was crowded with employees and customers. There were probably between 40 and 50 people inside. It was a takeover style robbery, so the assailants came in with guns drawn and screaming. The manager bailed out as soon as it started. Other employees managed the situation and got the robbers out of there pretty quickly with nobody being harmed. It was a better than expected result, because it initially looked like it was going to get ugly.
About 45 minutes later, the manager returns. NOPD and the FBI had already been interviewing the witnesses and the manager's absence was conspicuous. His explanation was that he saw two of the robbers taking rifles or shotguns out of the trunk of a car in the parking lot, so he left the branch to get to a pay phone to call police. There was a Shell station across the street with a bank of pay phones within sight of the door, but he went somewhere else. Obviously, there are silent and audible alarms in the branch, but he went somewhere else. If he had set off the siren as soon as he saw the guys in the parking lot, they probably would have hauled arse if they had any sense.
It looked really bad for him. I don't think he was involved, he just panicked. This guy had been a manager of various branches for about 20 years, so it wasn't like he was some kid that didn't have sufficient training. I don't know what happened to him, but I never saw him again.
