Friends of mine here in Houston just got a $2400 stimulus deposit this morning and combined they are knocking down >200K. Just how many mistakes will be made in this shite show??

It's a tax credit that is advanced to you. If they are not within the guidelines then they will pay it back on their 2020 taxes in 2021.

Everyone can claim it, but if you're audited, you'll have to pay it back, plus a fine, if you're determined to not be eligible for it.

Maybe, just maybe their last tax return was under 200k. Maybe somebody is not really honest. Maybe with millions and millions of payments going out, there may be a few mistakes.

and what was it, adjusted, in 2018?
and no matter what, with anything of this scale there are going to be mistakes for both over and underpayment...especially for people who are close to the thresholds
