Stealing F250 tail lights is apparently a thing

Multiple F250s in a gated garage had their tail lights stolen overnight.
Price for each tail light assembly is approx $1700. But wait, there's more. All in cost including labor, before they knew I was using insurance, is $7,700. FML. Deductible isn't bad, but come on man.

We've officially jumped the shark on tech in vehicles. That should be $120.

Happened to a buddy of mine
iirc it was like $3k to replace both with OEM parts
insurance covered it
eta: I see you already priced it. Labor cost is wow

All these fancy pants new headlights and taillights with LEDs and all the built in sensors are crazy expensive. Did they cut some wiring or something that they planned to charge you $4000 in labor? Sheesh

I really don’t know how/why insurance companies pay those prices.

My daughter inherited a 2018 F150 Lariat from my mother.
She cracked the back taillight.
Ford wants $1,527 retail for the bare unit (the blind spot sensor is re-used from the old unit).
Shopped around online and the best any dealer could do was $900.
Got an amazon China version for $250. The lighted color is a little different but the housing and mold appears identical to the OEM one.
Ford may be losing their arse on their vehicles and recalls, but they are making it up on parts and creating this high demand for theft.
It's especially stupid as collision parts should be the cheapest as they are sold in much higher volume compared to other parts.
ETA: If you don't fix the cracked taillight the water leaking in will corrode the harness connectors and screw up the communications buss and create all kinds of other problems.

This is why I will drive my 1999 7.3 for the rest of my life

Nope. They unplugged the harnesses quite gracefully. But supposedly re-programming and re-calibration of the LiDAR, yada yada.

An OEM tire I paid about $150 for two years ago is now $433, at the same tire shop. Car insurance has skyrocketed in the last two years, but don't hazard a guess as to why.

It’s not cheap to be a Baw. Sometimes you have to just pay the Baw Tax.

Wow...It appears high end OEM headlights and tailights are the new 20" rims...

It is one of the main reasons why insurance is going up. You would be mad if this happened to you and they didn’t pay it and you had to pay out of pocket.

They are not as kind to Porsche owners:
They are super expensive to replace (not counting the fact they cut them out) but the main reason is not to resell them in the car market but to use/sell them for growing weed. Not sure it is the same with F250 lights or not.

Subtle, “My truck has/d taillights,” brag.
And wtf?
And wtf?

I’m still pissed I didn’t buy the second 97 7.3 I was offered. It’s absolutely bulletproof.
I want a 12 or 24 valve Cummins next. That engine rocks too.
