It's sad to see it become the Detroit of the South. It will probably get worse too.
What's really sad...since NOLA has the higher murder rate...Detroit is now trying to be the "New Orleans of the north."

Show up and make this guy realize he is NOT representing you. VOTE HIM OUT
Also that elections have consequences.
This ordeal needs to be laid at the feet of the city council that allowed a lame Duck mayor to pander his arse off, initially hoping to land on Hillary's staff, but when that parished, he went in to pander to ANY appointment ANYWHERE..... maybe he went hard enough in the paint to land something like his Boy Marc did as the Urban league CEO in ATL...
Marc was slick as owl shite, knowing the CEO of the urban league carries a metric frick ton of untouchability for any corruption indictments when he left the mayors office.... ol Mitch needs him a luxury like that... but Marc is full black creole, Mitch is white boy creole, he fricked six ways from Sunday

This. There was no growing movement or anything. Just poof this is happening.
Trailer park trash 18 year old shoots up a black church 900 miles away so NOLA's solution is to take down some confederate statues.

I'm beyond pissed. The lying is unbelievable. Can't believe how fricked my City has become.

The same can be said about slavery.

You're a cheery POS. Do you think St. Tampax would have any kind of tax base if they weren't in driving range of BR or NO?

What gets me the most is how they made a race issue over these statues.
I really feel had Mitch presented a plan to make Lee Circle something else for the tri-centennial and then make Jefferson Davis into Norman Francis to honor the long term president of the HBCU + renowned Pharmacy school that buts up to the road (but a much better plan I heard was to change Washington to reflect Francis).
Then maybe later have some work of art made to go where Beauregard is and move them to the civil war museum or a memorial park.
Instead, a race issue was created and people actually cared.
I see tons of people I know who couldn't even tell you where most of the statues are, up in arms on both sides.
The whole thing was stupid.
One it manufactured a race issue that wasn't really there before. People have to almost choose sides on this.
Though what really gets me, is the scary precedent this sets. Who's to say we don't demoralize every former slave owner? How about every white man pre-civil rights?
Mitch opened Pandora's Box and he is too stupid to realize it.

City will soon look like Houston or Indianapolis or Des Moines or anywhere USA. Sterilize what was once a unique and beautiful city.

What did you expect from the same people who've lost control of crime in the city? Organizational skills, or a plan? These people have no answers. It's why they have diversionary projects like the attack on the inanimate statues, to get your mind off of their pathetic failures in leadership regarding the Quality of life in the city. Mitch needs some feathers in his cap, and it's certainly not going to come from governing.
3 more murdered today? No sweat. Mitch will get those statues for you.

How often did you go and admire the statues of Lee or Beauregard?? How will your lifestyle change when they are removed? Sure, the statues represent "heritage" and history and their removal doesn't really solve anything. Maybe it is stupid for the city to spend funds on such a meaningless project, but what good is it going to do you to get pissed off over a hunk of bronze and concrete being removed.
Couldn't have said it better myself. My life hasn't changed one bit since those statues came down.

guarantee you plenty of the people "offended" by these statues only became offended after being told to be. They probably walked by them for years and never once felt offended.
Mixed bag based on the statue and the person?
Anyone familiar with liberty place should have been offended by its purpose. It's also been the subject of complaints and controversy for decades.
Confederate soldiers? A lot of people thought them to be weird or uncomfortable. Maybe not in your social circle. Saw photos the other day of Jeff Davis vandalized by protesters over a decade ago.
It was certainly a somewhat sudden issue in the city govt, but part of that was the "anonymous donor" (assuming that's true).
I'll agree that the way it's been handled and communicated and generally enacted has been shady --- and that makes me uncomfortable (lack of public info, lack of communication about actual billing/funding, etc... )

Guys, rest assured that Mitch wants to be the first white guy as a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. He is doing this as a career move and nothing more.
