Eh. The statues should have been kept and reinforced into the Lost Cause erection of them. Lee Circle was already where the addicts went to die. Using them as education of the uselessness of the fight for inequality would've been more profitable. Instead it allows a reinterpretation into an erasing of history, with both sides clueless on the history being fought about.

I have yet to hear a coherent case for the current statues being removed. What is the benefit?
They take up real estate that could be used for more productive purposes or for a different monument that actually celebrates America.

Removal should be put on a ballot and voted on.

That's basically what I said.

Genuinely curious.. I am in my 30's. I never heard of this monument removal nonsense until mitch Landrieu made a push for it. In what circles has this been a big topic prior to this time frame?
I would say the first "modern" instance you probably should be able to remember was the removal of the rebel flag from the South Carolina statehouse in 2000. It was a big story - even Tiger Woods was dragged into it.

Those incidents go back to at least the 80's. I remember a guy parachuting to the top of the rotunda in Montgomery to remove the battle flag in 88 or sometime around there.

eta- i see the guy you're responding to is a little too young to remember that. My bad.

Leninists and Moaist really blow my mind.

You can make a misguided ideological argument for communism in a bubble, but the actual application is never anything someone should aspire to.

I disagree

No one is reading any engraving explaining the lost cause on the Lee Circle Statuemor the Beauregard statue. They’re sorta in the middle of intersections.

All it does is literally put the Lost Cause on a pedestal.

Does it solve any real problems? No.

But I think It’s an easy start .
