Putin won't let Trump tear it down unless he pays off his loans in full with a 10 percent penalty

This is to much irony for me to process.

Carpenter's initial interest in buying the statue was to preserve it for its historic and artistic merit.
No longer allowed in 2020.

Statue of Vladimir Lenin in Seattle
When will the offended people tear this one down??
And guess what? YOU STILL KNOW WHO LENIN IS! Isn't that amazing? History wasn't "destroyed" when a statue was removed from its original perch.
Thank you for making the case against yourself.

I don't know what this means.

I don't know what this means.

I have yet to hear a coherent case for the current statues being removed. What is the benefit?

“Kitsch” is exactly how I would have characterized the rebel flag on top of the Dukes of Hazard car.

Municipalities should be able to attend to their affairs however they see fit. If they go through their prescribed processes and arrive at removing a statue, then why shouldn't they do it?
Beyond that, it just seems obvious to me that government bodies displaying and maintaining tributes to a failed takeover of the country is entirely inappropriate. The benefit is to not have tributes to a failed takeover of the country.
In the case of actual removals, I certainly do not expect any kind of overnight panacea - or maybe even nothing at all.
Depending on the actual statue/memorial, I find myself mostly in favor of leaving them where they are and then supplementing them with more contextual information.
But - with certainty - the idea that removing them is "destroying history" is utterly absurd.

Thanks for the detailed response.
I don't have any connection to the statues but I also don't understand all of this energy being spent to remove them as if it actually helps anyone tangibly in their lives. It seems to just be a move to troll others which I think is ridiculous and not needed.

Genuinely curious.. I am in my 30's. I never heard of this monument removal nonsense until mitch Landrieu made a push for it. In what circles has this been a big topic prior to this time frame?
