ND is not on the way to anywhere so you don't pick it up "by accident". Not many people driving from Montana to Minnesota or the reverse. Unless you need to go to ND for something SD has very similar topography and also has Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse.

Any of the west coast states, preferably the pacific northwest - Oregon or Washington.

New England area, Oregon, Washington, Michigan, Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, and Wyoming.

Even though I've driven through CO, WY, MT, and UT I don't really consider them states I have "visited" because I only stopped for gas, food, sleep.

I'd like to spend considerable time in each, primarily outdoors.

MT (Glacier)


UT (Mighty 5/Slot canyons)


Probably add Alaska to the list too.

Washington, Idaho, and Montana. Mainly the national parks in Idaho and Montana.
