The Louisiana State Police have determined that a trooper involved in a fatal crash last month in Pointe Coupee Parish was driving more than 100 mph even though he was not responding to an emergency call, according to two law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation.

The crash claimed the life of a 64-year-old Lottie man and also injured the trooper, Christopher Kelley, who remains on medical leave. Kelley, who was hired in 2015, is assigned to the State Police's Alexandria-based Troop E and had been driving to New Orleans at the time of the crash to work a Mardi Gras detail.

Assistant District Attorney Tony Clayton told The Advocate that he plans to present the results of a "brutally honest" State Police investigation to a grand jury, which will be tasked with determining whether Kelley should face criminal charges. The prosecutor said he intends to send Kelley a target letter and to present the case to the panel within the next two weeks.

This baw is fricked. Travelling over 100MPH in a State Police vehicle to an overtime detail.

Troopers are notorious for recklessly speeding. One passed me the other day on i10 like I was standing still.

It is my understanding that there is a statute that states that no vehicle, including emergency and law enforcement vehicles, may ever travel more than 15 mph above the posted limit.

Now, good luck finding a judge to enforce said law.

If it doesn't, that is news to me, cops drive faster than the fastest speeders around here.

They do it all the time. I had to go to Alexandria last week and got behind a trooper on the way there and back that were both cruising at 80mph+ on 190. I just get in behind them and match speed.

Throw the book at him for killing a guy because he was late to work or abolish the speed limit for the rest of us too. One or the other.

SMH. How about firing that sorry piece of shite and charging him with a crime? Perhaps vehicular manslaughter, at a minimum?

You know, like they'd do anyone else in this situation.
