The state song should have been When The Saints Go Marching In, originally recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1938. There is no other song that people connect with New Orleans, and Louisiana, quite like it. Unfortunately, policies of segregation prevented its adoption at the time, and now its religious theme will make it unlikely due to political correctness issues.

No. It is about Jimmie Davis's horse named Sunshine.

I'm on board with this as long as its the CCR version.

Sorry, but no.
It's a song associated with New Orleans, not Louisiana, and it's not about either.

No, can't go there because they mispronounce "Thibodeaux".

Put it up to a vote I reckon.
But who gives a rats arse about State songs?
Does the Iowa state song inflame your loins?
Is the State song of West Virginia a hot request on top 40 no one listens to station any more?

The state song of LA should be "The Pine Grove Blues" by Nathan Abshire.

Louisiana, 1927 is the best. It is about the resilience of our people in a land that water has been trying to reclaim for decades. "They're TRYING to wash us away!" But, you see, we're still here and still strong.

New Orleans is as much Louisiana to people outside the state as New York City is to New York. And When The Saints Go Marching In conveys something unique about Louisiana that everyone immediately recognizes.

Louisiana does indeed have two official state songs. "Give Me Louisiana" and "You are My Sunshine".
