Louisiana State Police have launched an internal review and suspended a program in which local parish law enforcement hires troopers to write traffic tickets, WVUE Fox 8 News reported Wednesday (Nov. 8).

The suspension and review comes amid an undercover investigative series from Fox 8, which premieres in the New Orleans area on Wednesday night on Fox 8 News at 10. The station said their investigation found problems with overtime and mileage expenses in the program, called the Local Agency Compensated Enforcement program, or LACE. In one case, the station said, reporters found troubling issues when examining the records of a trooper who as a result of the program has become the highest-paid law enforcement officer in the state.

When did the State Police turn into such a pile of shite agency? It wasn't long ago that they were one of the areas of La government that people thought were above board and did a good job.

Colored me shocked. It's not that much of a surprise that when given free reign with no checks, an employee will line his or her pockets. It's not only an issue to this agency, it goes with any profession.

The state police is a criminal organization, they need to be scoured from top to bottom.

Most professions are not held to the standard of State Police.

I also wonder if this had anything to do with them increasing the speed limit on 310 in St Charles Parish from 60 to 70

Under Edmonson's watch they turned into a corrupt organization, when no one went to jail over them stealing from the taxpayers with the overtime and trip scandal it was sad.

Nothing will change until the FBI comes in and perp walks these fricks into jail.

I meant that an agency that can arrest, fine, and use deadly force should have higher ethical standards than "other professions".

So was this program offering personal incentive for officers to write more tickets? If that is the case, whoever approved this idea should be fired immediately and possible subject to a public stoning

The way I read it is that local parishes were paying troopers overtime to work speed details.

ETA: which begs the question, if the troopers are working in the Parish’s behalf, is it on the troopers or the Parish for the frickery?

Some of the shifts in question were worked in St. Charles Parish.

"It's disheartening to hear that one or two individuals have claimed to have worked hours they apparently haven't worked," said Joel Chaisson II, the St. Charles Parish district attorney, who reviewed the station's findings. "The fact that they might have written a normal amount of tickets to be expected in an 8-hour shift doesn't make me feel good if they were only out there for four hours."
