Usually it’s due to weight. Has to be rated commercial personal use sometimes

Found your problem.
Shitty insurance companies do shitty things to the customers.

we aren't talking fault. We are talking coverage. "no fault state" is the legal term for when a state does not require drivers to have liability bodily injury coverage.

So you're a huge profit center that is price insensitive. And you will continue to overpay for insurance because you like the fact that you drive by the agent's office on the way to the grocery?

We have to have insurance. I know SF is shitty in a lot of people's experience, but it's been fine for us. Why fix what ain't broken?

What is their reasoning?
Allstate won't insure the truck because they say it is a commercial vehicle even with the state, 3 of them since I have owned it, registering it as a light truck. As far as the multi-car discount thing its apparently only good for up to 3 cars. I shopped our insurance around last year toward the end of November and our rates were as good or better than any I got quotes on. We pay right at $1000 a month for 6 cars, 4 of which are driven about 5000 miles a year if that. No one has any tickets, no claims, just damned expensive to own a car I guess.
They have suggested we install their tracking devices to save money but I am pretty certain they use those devices to go up on rates instead of down. I drive like an old lady and can keep breaks on everything I drive for years and years but my wife, son and daughter all think slowing down involves hitting the brakes at the last minute...

If you’re in GA, that MC policy is changing and won’t be limited to 4 vehicles

Insurers generally give agents bigger bonuses for new sign ups, and also help incentivize lower prices for the *new* consumer to depress the price, at least for 6mo-1 year. Think about how cell phone companies try to tempt the hell out of new customers, and tend to sort of treat the existence of the current customers like second class citizens.
You shop insurance at least every year to take advantage of the subsidies to your overall cost for those "new" sign ups. You could jump back and forth between All State and SF every other year and just save money.

Simply isn’t the case with SF. Why would I want to spend all this money on payroll and advertising to not take care of my existing book of Business? I get paid the same on a new customer or someone who’s renewed for the tenth time.

More and more of the big carriers will deny claims for any driver not listed in the HH. Let’s say an undisclosed teen driver, your neighbor, a friend. Permissive use covers you in those instances

I'm paraphrasing what I've had local SF and Geico agents tell me over, and over, and over again. You respond to incentives from corporate to score that trip with your family to Europe for a month. The incentives change depending on what product corporate wants to push in what quarter.
I wasn't saying you don't take *care* of the existing book, but the lure of the All State agent to take someone off your book for at least this year, is pretty damn strong. You send out a card for their birthday or anniversary, and answer their phone call when they ring you once every seven years, like the lady I was responding to. Whoop de do.

You should have left SF 3 years ago when they began supporting the youth trans movement. I did, and went to Farm Bureau.

This is true for agents chasing promos instead of profit

Now do the exclusions in the policy. Just because you have permission does not mean you are insured.

Before I ask my State Farm agent
My son gets his license in a couple months, if I don’t add him to my policy are they going to deny claim when he gets in an accident?
Posted on 6/23/25 at 1:43 pm to yellowfin
I would add him as a permit only right now, doesn’t rate them on the policy. You’re going to want them to be added. Don’t give a company a reason to non-renew.
