State child support collectors and their reports to credit bureaus

You've separated from your spouse and now the state is trying to collect child support from you. They file in June, but the child support hearing is not until September. When the child support hearing takes place, you are dinged for $500 per month, retroactive to June which was the date of demand. You now immediately owe $1500 in arrears. No problem, the State agrees that you can pay it out at $100 per month. Everything is fine ... no. The State then dings your credit report by sending the arrearage to the credit bureaus.
I think this is incredibly chickenshit. You don't know what to pay until you have court. Granted, you should save up some money knowing that there will be an arrearage, but most people don't.
I had a guy who just got a check for a $550 overpayment, but when he looked at his credit report, it had a $108 ding for unpaid child support.
I've also seen people who haven't paid CS in years, and they have no ding on their credit report.
And, the reduced credit scores can make it harder to pay child support.
I think this is incredibly chickenshit. You don't know what to pay until you have court. Granted, you should save up some money knowing that there will be an arrearage, but most people don't.

Louisiana has a formula for CS payments. I actually requested the LA DCFS enforce our CS arrangement bc my ex kept accusing me of not paying even though I had proof of never missing a payment.
I knew what my child support would be the moment I first met with my lawyer. However I did know my ex's salary and we had the custodial arrangement already worked out.
What I hate about my arrangement is that I have 50-50 custody and still have to pay CS because I get paid more than her and despite the fact she refuses to pay for anything the child needs.
I have absorbed all costs for the child because it isn't his fault his mom is a selfish B*tch. I have faith he will recognize how lopsided things were when he gets older and be grateful.
Three more years and I'm done with that BS

That's bullshite
The kids aren't free during that period. He should have been paying something then when amount is set they can settle up.
The formula is online so it's pretty easy to get close

You need a court order to tell you to support your child? What a pile of shite, do you think your ex was just shitting out money from June to September?

This is not fair at all. I see it all the time though.
WHat you need to do is tell CSE that you now self identify as a woman and all collection efforts should cease as the state never goes after women for child support.
My ex owes over $40K in back child support with interest and our son is now 25 and I doubt either of us will ever see a dime of it or that she will ever pay any penalty for not paying .

Why does the father automatically have to start paying?
Its one thing if hes not trying to have any custody but if the father is trying to custody why should he just pony up cash flow for her? It should be between the mother and father to figure it out until there is a court order.

If the mother has custody , yes the father should start paying, if the father has custody then the mother should start paying.
WHy?
1. Because it's the right thing to do
2. Because the state is going to go back and asses some back child support anyway, may as well start paying it.

And why on earth would the mother pay him if she has custody?
The presumption here is that the children are living with the mother.
