When my wife went through chemo she had a Neulasta shot the day after chemo. This shot caused sever back pain. The effects of the shot were sometimes worse than the chemo. Good luck baw!

My mom had more chemo in a 12-year time span than just about anyone on the planet. If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be food.
As much as you could possibly imagine. I watched her do chemo 15 years ago with under a hundred pounds. And I watched her do chemo at 150 lbs.
When she was heavier it was much easier. Her side effects were lessened.
We would take mediline French cookies and stack them with peanut butter. She'd wash them down with ensure shakes.
Her last bout with stage four cancer she was 90lbs and had nothing left.

You got this, no doubt. I haven't gone through the thread yet but was it a normal check up or was there something to make you get a check up, not asking for a friend.

Can I ask if it was just you finding a lump or was there other issues that led to finding it?
This all started with a bout of colitis in January. Woke up with a horrible stabbing pain in my lower right abdomen, thought it was the appendix. Went to the er and they did a cat scan and saw the swollen lymph node causing the intestines to swell and ulcer. Was given some antibiotics and such, it cleared up after a few days. Made an appointment with the internal med doc, he sent me to an oncologist. That led to me staying in the er because I had developed some back pain that turned out to be a lymph node pressing against the kidney- urologist put in a stint to keep the flow going. And since then it has been a constant parade of procedures tests and surgeries. I've been to the hospital more in the last month than I have in my entire life before this.
I appreciate all of the well wishes. I'm kinda relieved that I've gotten to this point without losing my sanity - it has been rough to say the least. My body feels horrible already, I'm kinda nervous how much the chemo is going to pile on this.

My chemo wasn’t too bad. 4 sessions over 3 months. Yes lost hair and very tired at times. No sickness no weight loss. Chemo will knock your white blood count down so be careful who you’re around.

Yeah my doctor stressed this to me - my chemo is going to be 5 sessions per round, 4 rounds with 3 weeks between each round. 20 sessions over 3 months - doc told me to basically quarantine myself as much as possible from everyone and to stay out of public places completely. I'm staying with family through this and theyve volunteered to do grocery runs and errands for me, so it shouldn't be a problem.

quote:Having had 12 chemo treatments twice for recurrent colon cancer let me share what I learned.
I'm kinda nervous how much the chemo is going to pile on this.
Don’t start the chemo thinking “I’ve got to get through 12 (or however many treatments you’re scheduled for) treatments.”
Instead think to yourself, “I’m only going to agree to have one treatment.”
Then after that one treatment tell yourself, “Okay, I did one treatment. Now I’m only going to go through one more treatment and that’s it!”
After the second treatment, “Okay, just one more and no more after that.”
And so on until you’ve completed all of the treatments.
Do that for evey treatment and you’ll get through it a whole lot easier than if you know you’ve got 12, then 11, then 10 treatments ahead of you. Facing 12 treatments is too daunting of a task. But having to face only one more poisoning is easy. You can do it.

As someone mentioned before I had Neulasta shots after treatment ( $ 11,000 per shot btw). It stimulates your bones to make white blood cells but can cause some bone pain several days after the shot.

Oh and btw after chemo I had daily radiation for 6 weeks. Ended two weeks ago Saturday and I played 18 holes of golf this week. You got this.

Hair loss.
Accept that it may never come back.
Taste can go to shite. Tart things will be your friend. Like pickled okra with some ranch is a big winner. The dill pickle chips were good as well.
Can cause diarrhea. Bananas and yogurt to help you belly and stool if too loose. Milk products can sour your belly. If they don't chocolate milk has protein and calories if you need them. Can be very refreshing.
Popeyes mashed potatoes and biscuits are easy on the digestive system as well.
Tons of water. Pedialyte packs can help with dehydration if you are affected.
Keep moving. Walk your arse off. Don't lay around if you can help it. Make sure you keep your iron up. Red meat and tunafish. If your iron gets low with not eating and/or diarrhea it can make you tired and dizzy.
Good luck bro. You can do it.
If your wondering you can get by with just one testicle. Everything works the same. Won't miss a lick.
Wound care with port. If you are having to change bandages/tape...
Get adhesive remover wipes and wipe the back of the bandage and it will dissolve and easy to peel off
If you need to protect the skin before bandage application you can spray and let dry with this.

The very tone of your message was an inspiration to me tonight.
Thank you for sharing. I’m sorry about your difficult road ahead, but life is what you make it and it seems you are set to make the best of it.
