So what is the main reason for landing in the Indian Ocean? Is that just the only possibiliy due to angle/orbit ?

Indian Ocean is a safe place to put it. They are still making sure the ship can survive reentry over an open area before trying to bring it back into Starbase

I think it's just b/c the Starship hasn't yet proven its ability to safely return without some breaking apart... so it's not allowed over land inside Earth's atmosphere yet

Spacex is the poster child of iterative design. They take some much crap from haters during their first few tests and then a few tests later people don’t have anything else to chirp about.

Exact same thing happened with falcon 9 landing.
