The shooter didn't know that.
Many of you missed the point. I said for their safety, kids shouldn't be on other people's property. I didn't say it was OK to shoot them if they are.
Again, all parties involved were in the wrong. The kids for trespassing and the dude for shooting.
I need to go dig up the thread from a few weeks ago where the 80 year old dude shot the black kid that knocked on his door because the tone was 100% different.

If we're measuring fault I'll go 99.9 to the guy who sees kids shadows then shoots as they run away and 0.1 to the kids playing hide and seek on a neighbors property.

14 year olds don't play hide and seek. They were up to something. Glad she'll be ok and yes the shooter should go to jail. But I don't buy the Hide and Seek story.

Perhaps but not for speaking the truth here which I have said 20 times now.

I made a similarly themed post in another thread where I openly admitted I agreed with the prevailing sentiment but offered the devil’s advocate position because I genuinely wanted to have the discussion as I struggle with arguing against it. At the time it had 3 upvotes with none down, yet no comments in reply. Some things are clearly black and white. Others are not, and I’d genuinely like to talk about how to talk about those while maintaining my non hypocrisy.

My son had his 14 yr old bday party last week… had a few kids here for a sleepover. They played ‘manhunt’ in the neighborhood.
I had a very direct conversation with them about staying off peoples property.. bc motherfrickers are crazy. They stay inside and watch Fox News all day (or read TD OT) and they’re scared of their own shadow.

In all seriousness, I have some folks in my neighborhood that have been campaigning to our state legislators to expand our Castle Doctrine law to include being allowed to shoot anyone who is considered trespassing. It is fricking terrifying. Despite Stout's "don't go on someone's property" that change to the law would allow someone to shoot me turning around in their fricking driveway. That's nuts.
I appreciate the 2nd Amendment. I regularly carry myself, even more so now that I'm a therapist. But man, I make damn sure I know what I'm doing with a firearm, keep it secured, and stay on top of that.

They are hypervigilant because they suffer from irrational fears...not because of a slight up tick in crime of any sort. They are skeered...they got the feels. The only answer is for everyone to be armed all the time...its obvious there ain't near enough people with near enough guns in the United States. You can bet if old boy suspected all them kids were packing he'd have thought long and hard about running out and blasting at them....
