Had MRSA on my left knee 7 years ago. Ended up going down my leg to my ankle. Underwent 7 operations in 13 days and spent 3 months in the hospital. After that a year in a nursing home for wound treatment and physical therapy to learn to walk again. I cant even fathom anything being more painful.

No. I had been on bactrim for 3 days. It hadn't been lanced yet. It hurt so bad I was trying anything to relieve the pressure lol. Urgent care swapped me from bactrim to doxycycline.

I've had two on my back the 2nd on wasn't as bad as the 1st one because I learned my lesson after the 1st one, don't mess around.
I had to have two rounds of bactrim after the first one and have a pretty good scar from it.
Before they cut it open I was having to change a 6x6 bandage about once and hour because so much puss was coming out of it.
ETA:
You know it can spread if you let the puss get on other parts of your body? Lysol makes a laundry detergent now so you can wash your clothes and kill it.

And this right here is why I refuse to go to the hospital unless something is going to kill me. You go in for some minor BS and end up with a life threatening infection.

I had a real bad one in 06 that required them to cut open my knee and insert 2 drain tubes, remain in the hospital for 7 days taking the antibiotic vancomycin through an IV the whole time.
I had to get a shot in my stomach every morning to ward off some of the bad side effects of the vancomycin.
How it came about was insane. I was on my knees shooting the last of some trim in a friends house who was rebuilding after Katrina and noticed a stinger in my right knee. Got home, took a shower and saw I had an ingrown hair. I took out the tweezers, cleaned them under hot water and dug the hair out and removed it.
Three days later my knee was swollen 2 times the normal size and my leg was purple and yellow from the upper thigh damn near to the ankle and I'm in the hospital awaiting surgery.

I thought the one under my knee was a spider bite ( red spot with a white head) I just stayed fishing too long Hopi g it would go away. I was about a day from hospital room with it antibiotics.

Just got done at the ER. Started running a fever. They gave me clyndomyacin and lanced it. Doc said "give him a gram of" and I started getting excited but he said tylenol.
