Just b/c there are a few bad cops doesn't make them all bad.
People who aren't "bad" people will still lie to protect themselves. I don't even think some of the cops who outright commit bad acts are "bad" in the sense we typically use it. They just want to avoid the shitstorm and fabricate a way out of it. I get it. What's the proper consequence?

To stop the night time protests
But this woman who is well spoken and not ghetto and appears to be a peaceful protestor said they will not heed the request

The department's first major misstep, Kelly told the paper, was not immediately releasing all of the information surrounding Brown's death. Telling the public what happened “certainly has the potential for quelling or lessening disturbances,” Kelly said. “You tell them what you know and tell them what you don’t know, rather than dribbling it out.”
Ray Kelly is an idiot.

I think proper consequences are already in place. Maybe I am to trusiting over people who are enforcing the laws or my view is based on never having real bad experiences with cops.
My simplest answer would be for parents to teach their children to respect authority.

Wtf? I thought that was your point for the last several pages?

Which is very comforting to everyone except the family and loved ones of the ones where it's handled wrongly. I get that it's not an easy job. Where does accountability come in to a situation like that? Do we just say "here's some money" to the family and say "it's a tough job, you wouldn't understand"? Is there anything that can be done practically or is it just the reality of life?
Thank you for the intelligent response. Yes, we will always have bad officers. A lot of departments are poorly paid and terribly trained. Those departments usually don't have to handle critical situations but when they do they usually don't do a very good job. The bad part is that all of us are grouped with the idiot that screwed up. This is America, we throw money at the victims and tell them sorry.
To fix the situation, better training, better pay and make it harder to become a LEO. Our department has high standards, but a lot of departments are just looking for a "warm body."

Even Ray Kelly says Ferguson PD is out of control. That's pretty bad. I agree.

Sooooooo, the ones that want to do it the right way, don't want to take a short break so that the trash can be taken out?
Oh, makes sense. Frick this whole neighborhood ya'll, we mad. They don't need to sleep.
Hell, I don't live anywhere near Ferg but I feel for those folks that are trying to get rest for school and work just because other folks are mad and feel the need to show how mad at midnight.
Dumb.
Only the couple of Mizz fans in here are watching them at that hour anyway. They should march during soap opera time to get more of the people that vote like them in on the party.

I was being sarcastic with my Ray Kelly comment.

Oh you like Kelly.
Change of heart again about police?
quote:
Former NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly once boasted that his department-- which he described as a "quasi-military organization"-- had “some means to take down a plane" if necessary.
It was this same militarized police force that, under Kelly, conducted a midnight raid on Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan in 2011, rounding up and arresting journalists and scores of Occupy Wall Street protesters.
It was Kelly who defended his department after the Associated Press uncovered its surveillance of the city's Muslim communities.
Amidst growing outrage, Kelly also defended his department's use of stop-and-frisk. Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers were stopped by police during his stint as commissioner, the overwhelming majority of whom were black or Latino.
And it was during Kelly's tenure as commissioner that police officers killed Sean Bell, Tamon Robinson, and Ramarley Graham -- all unarmed black men.
Change of heart again about police?

Yeah, that is the white dude, who's the #1 instigator. He's on the megaphone stirring the blacks up.
Good for French.

The same as any other job that a mistake can cost a life. Stop acting like some pseudo-intellectual prick.

This.
Unfortunately, cities like Ferguson, Jennings and the like don't have the money to increase pay and can't afford to higher their standards. The result is that many of their better officers leave at the first opportunity for jobs that do have better training, more pay and higher standards. Not that it's the entire force, but I do think many times those cities do end up having to accept the "warm body" more than a lot of other departments.

Sounds to me like you have something against LEO... Tell us, did you happen to catch one tapping your mom or your SO?
