one good point that he made was that infringements by people given power against protesting citizens have been going on for generations.
No, you don't disagree. You just didn't understand. I have informed conclusions and lost my idealism many years ago. It just is what it is. They ain't going to change anything in Mo.

Wouldn't people intending to protest peacefully keep their end of the deal and not block an intersection?
They weren't blocking an intersection.

Listening to this scanner is tough, radio traffic puts me to sleep.. now when the tones drop on the other hand, that's the best alarm clock.

u can only blame so much on Bush and patriot act. Barry not only extended it, but allowed even more rights infringements. Then Allowed NSA to walk right over any rights we thought we had.

then the cops demanding that they leave,
Weren't they told to clear the street by 6pm?

I find it a bit ironic that this entire event was brought on by an alleged act of police brutality on Michael Brown, and there is most certainly a racial undertone to the ordeal, yet hundreds of mostly white police officers have spent the last four nights using nothing but non-lethal deterrents on mostly black protesters.
If the police were truly out to get you, this certainly seems like the perfect opportunity. So they spray you with a bit of tear gas? Grow up and stand for your beliefs. Turn the tables on them; don't attack them with bottles or pull guns on them in the middle of the chaos.

The wife of @AntonioFrench said he's being booked now. He was apparently arrested for getting out of his car against officers' wishes

They were blocking 2 lanes of a 4 lane road and it looked liked the road crossing it was closed

What greater opportunity to paint the police in a bad light than to peacefully protest in the street and then on the sidewalk while the police look like they're invading Fallujah?
frick that. the minute they start firing off tear gas canisters and wooden bullets, I'm gone.

I don't believe he necessarily broke any laws tonight, but I'm pretty sure this is a gross oversimplification of the events that led to his arrest.

Bottom line, the protesters were "winning" the public over until they physically fought the police.
Happens every time. This gives the cops an open door to use more strong arm tactics.

That was the reaction to a violent act against the police.
Supposedly it wasn't even tear gas. Regardless, the protesters could have solidified their movement and united a large swath of the American public if they could have shown any restraint whatsoever.
MLK-type leadership would do them wonders right now.

"If the police would just let us sit in the street peacefully, we wouldn't resort to throwing molotov cocktails and bottles."
What kind of thinking is that?
Slackster, I could very well be wrong, but we'll have to agree to disagree on this point. I certainly don't claim to be an expert in psychology or whatever, but I have dealt with people like the ones you see in the riots on an almost daily basis and have gotten to understand them a little bit. I would bet if tomorrows statement from the PD instead of saying protest to 6 then we're moving, if it said hey, we're gonna give you a chance to prove us wrong tonight. We're not gonna have a show of force and if you want to protest, then protest. For the residents, if things get out of control, we will be within earshot to respond but we're going to let them protest. My guess is you would see the alderman and the state senator and the Brown's and their supporters demonstrate for an hour or two and then everyone would go home because there is no one there to direct their anger to. Could be wrong, but don't think I am.

Idk they were making racist comments. Plenty of other ignorant comments also. Had they remained peaceful it would have left a better impression.

Does not surprise me one bit. I'm sure this stuff goes on everywhere, but I can guarantee you that these guys are well trained on how to beat the crap out of you and leave no proof for you to be able to prove it.
