I read somewhere that they weren’t starting the verification process until January, but is there a anticipated completion date?

It’ll be done once they illegally throw out enough votes to fail it.

Unfortunately, you’re probably right

Waiting for everyone who signed it to move out of the area

It's sad to see that it's taking so long.
Thousands used their constitutional right to petition to incorporate.
Unfortunately the government seems to be taking its time and not acting on the petitioners request very fast. Maybe I'm wrong, but it shouldn't take very long to check the signatures.

Or at least until the City-Parish can "shoe-string" annex more commercial property by using ditches

I'm fairly certain that the city is enjoined from annexing land in the proposed new St. George once the petition gets started.

The law only says it cannot annex while the petition is in circulation, which it is not.
RS 33:1 (G)
quote:
G. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, during the time period granted to a chairperson to submit a petition for certification pursuant to Subsection C of this Section, no municipality shall annex any area included within an area proposed for incorporation as described in a petition which has been filed with the secretary of state. Any annexation in violation of this Subsection shall be null and void ab initio.

There was a round of speculation about annexations during the counting period. If I recall correctly it was determined the legislature in spirit intended the ban on annexation to last until the petition was completed and signatures verified. But they didn’t write the law that way.
