BRHS has a far superior physical plant than Woodlawn's. The faculty is far superior too.
And to use your own words siphoning away the best and the brightest to increase the academic drive of the lucky ones chosen does what for the kids left behind?
When I went to school kids were separated by race, now we separate them by IQ. The ones that don't go to the schools that foster academics get short changed.

They do now, although that was not always the case.

I agree, although there are certainly poor teachers at BRMHS and many great teachers at other high schools.

I do not advocate leaving any kid behind, but do not hold back high performing students. Same reason I do not advocate blending classes with low, medium and high performers. Teaching to the lowest common denominator is inevitable. We need to prepare students to succeed at the best colleges around the country as well as students to succeed in technical schools...LA needs them all.

My wife and I signed for SG a week or so ago...count us in!

You don't put high performers in the same classes. High performers take advanced courses in the same school where solid students take basic courses. Kids can have a college prep curriculum or a basic curriculum and still be at the same high school.
And Woodlawn facilities were superior to BRHS for only Avery short period of time when the new Woodlawn was first opened. BRHS is far superior now as is the faculty.

You mean the money for sewer improvements that EPA forced them to pay under threat of penalty?

quote:You can't be serious. My statement was in response to sentiment that the tax dollars from the residents of the unincorporated area are merely collected and spent elsewhere, exclusively. Clearly, that is not the case, as many SG proponents would have us believe.
You speak as though it was a gift to have some of one's tax dollars spent in their own area.

quote:Well that's your own fault for not being persistent. I had the exact same problem last year. Took them about 6 weeks to come out, but I had to bug the shite out of them.
Perhaps. But I've been waiting for over a year to have someone from CP come out and look at what I suspect to be a leaking storm drain in my yard causing a sinkhole
quote:Well, yeah. More dirt is just going to be sucked away by the leaking pipe. Tell DPW that they need to pump fly ash into it. They're more responsive if you sound like you know what you're talking about.
I had to put fill dirt into it myself but with all the rain we've had it's sinking more.

Repeated calls to CP were useless and basically made me feel like, since you are in that SG area we'll get to you when ever we feel like it.
