For the record I don't send our child there but somewhere else that is almost as expensive.

What percentage of jesuit/rummel/bm grads will become doctors and lawyers? druggies?flat bill wearers? etc etc

It may have nothing to do with the actual schooling on why certain schools produce a higher percentage of said groups, but as a parent I am playing the odds that are in front of my face

At some point you'll realize that parental influence has more to do with this than schooling does. If you don't want your kid to fail, then raise him/her correctly. Don't let a school attempt to raise your kid. When you do that, your kid is subjected to being influenced by children who's parents failed them. They are subjected to being influenced by the brainwashing of the Catholic Church.

I love how ill informed the catholic crowd is

I'm not saying they don't, but some people seem to think only Newman, Franklin, Country Day and Jesuit are the last bastions of college prep in the New Orleans area...

I work with Drs that went to Grace King, EJ and Bonnabel for Christ sake... Any kid that works hard enough will produce and reach their goals no natter what school...

As far as my wife and I sending our kids to a catholic school was our choice because we were both raised as part of the catholic school system. As far as the 'brainwashing," It didn't happen...

I'm honestly shocked. I personally wouldn't consider sending my kid there until they get a new principal but maybe they are doing well. A teacher at BM has told me their St. Ann students do very well.

Tamica Lee's kids go to SCS.
That has to count for something doesn't it?

Yes in the grand scheme of things, the parents are the main driver in how good a kid will do. I couldn't imagine sending my kids to EJ or Grace King though

There is, however, a huge difference in academics at the local Catholic high schools.

Of course a thread about two elementary schools a mile away from each other has devolved into a NOLA high school pissing match

I would like to know this as well. All of my friends from that side of town send there kids there.

They were pissed at St. Rita about 10 years ago when it was time for their kids to start there for most of them and even a wife and a sister quit teaching at St. Rita because of a messy situation.

She's been there since I was a student there. School needs new blood. I know she was bending to every whim of the parents and the teachers disliked her when I was in high school. It's possible that she's evolved and things have changed.

I was an SLKF kid in the 80s and early 90s. Would never, ever send my kid there.

My kids go there and we have no issues with her. I think it's the opposite of perhaps when you went there...not a whole lot of teacher turnover lately, but some parents complain she isn't receptive enough to students that have special needs. Can't imagine she is far from retirement, though.

We had 15 valedictorians at Jesuit in my class

So I wouldn't put much emphasis on where they went to elementary school

Also, I went to St. Christopher and I'm still pretty much friends with all the guys I was friends with there. I thought it was a good school, but that the guidance/counsellors office overreached and was super imposing on kids. I'm not sure if it is still like that, but I'd say it is one of the better schools academically, socially, and athletically.

It's about 2-1 girl:guy ratio in the advanced group, most of the girls went to MCA and seemed to do well. 6 of us guys went to Jesuit and 4 of us are at LSU on scholarship, 1 is at ULL, and the other is playing baseball somewhere.

Where is the new school being built?

It will built right next to the new church on Yenni and Loyola/Lentini.

Joan goes to bat for SEAS kids. Rarely does one not get into their school of choice. If, for some reason, that is the case, Joan calls the principal and works for the kid. I know of 2 kids who just missed the cut at a certain school and Joan picked up the phone and the miraculously made the cut.

The Divine Mercy Men's club offers pretty much the same as the others. There is always plenty of beer, steaks, crawfish, etc and usually there is a game on.

Big events are:

the parish fair
The car show and cook off
The golf tourney

There is a core group that has grown the men's club, and that will continue. The golf tourney is a blast, and the car show is really starting to take off.

There is an open house on January 19th. Go check it out and see if it feels right to you.

Jesuit had 15 valedictorians last year and Mount Carmel had 11 lol.

I'm surprised this thread is still going tbh. I think St Catherine's is the best choice and don't think it's really that close. Didn't go there so I'm not biased either.

The vibe at St. Matthews was just a little run down. The class size is tiny as well. From what I gathered, St. Matthew was better, and about 5-10 years ago there was a shift to St. Rita

I am sure St. Mathew is fine, but I went to the fair and it just seemed cheap and run down
