My grandmother traveled to Europe on the SS United States years ago. I remember her telling us kids about the "luxury" of that type travel.

My grandparents sailed from NY to England aboard the Queen Mary in '57. My parents drove them from Atlanta to NYC and got to go aboard with them. The United States was berthed next to the Mary and my mom had some incredible pictures. I can't remember if they were allowed to go aboard her or not.

the Queen Mary

I took the tour of the QM at Long Beach and it was pretty cool. We were lucky that there were not a lot of people onboard at the time, so the guide had plenty of extra time to let us look and see.
I'll bet the USS US would have been a pretty cool way to spend an afternoon on as well..

Timing is everything. The SS United States launched just when air travel was becoming popular. The fastest ship to cross the Atlantic was no match for a plane.

The sand is 180. she will likely settle 5'-8' into the sand over the next couple years, but the top of the ship and likely the deck should still be within rec limits.

Just realized the height of this ship. Plenty of area will be reachable.

It needs to be sank off the coast of grand isle. It'll have fish on it, be super popular, and keep all the potlicking assholes from riding up on me and sniping my secret unmarked snapper spots.

When the Queen Mary was retired she was moved straight to Long Beach. United States was stripped out ages ago and all you would see are empty spaces.

You adjusted just fine to Mississippi being called Landmass, you'll adjust to this as well.

This is like a before/after for a brand new Royal Caribbean vessel, then 3 weeks after starting New Orleans service

It’s crazy to me how fast that ship was. It would top out around 38 knots (44mph). Fastest large liner ever.
