You nerds have any book recommendations for people interested in this stuff?

Two entangled electrons communicate with each other instantaneously even when many lightyears apart. How?

No they don't.

Particles typically have a set of values associated with them that can be positive or negative. Spin is a good example. Say you get two particles, each of which can have positive or negative spin. You don't know which until you measure it.

Now you "entangle" them. This means that when you know the spin of one, that tells you the spin of the other. Again, you don't know until you look. But all this spookiness really means is that if you determine that the spin of one particle is positive, then you instantly know the spin of the other particle no matter how far away it is when you perform the measurement.

This doesn't violate any physical laws because you can't entangle particles that are already widely separated. They have to be close together when you do it, and that is when the "communication" takes place.

*After* you do the entanglement, you can transport one of them as far away as you like but they're still entangled.

In essence, what you are saying is that VESPR theory and Van Der Waal's forces rule the day.

OK. Thanks for the explanation.

Can you go a little more in depth? Or elaborate?

I'm posting from the airport right now so can't get into too much detail, but the wiki page on quantum entanglement might help.

What about this Science article that states scientists have achieved this with objects 750 miles apart?

Sure do.

All of Michio Kaku's books.

Not a big fan of his but Neil Degrasse Tyson has one out called Astrophysics for People in a Hurry that's not bad.

The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene.

Those are where I would start.

Then I would recommend you graduate into some of the lecture series by Krori and Desai.

I once performed the Heimlich maneuver on a close relative. Now she doesn't worry anymore.

Reminds me of a Clemson joke during rivalry week.

This smoke show of a gal has a flat tire up in Pickens County. So she pulls over at the Esso Club and goes inside and asks if anyone there would help her change a tire (thinking it used to be a service station and all, so she gives it a shot)

Bartender tells her these two brothers over there might help her after they finish eating ... and he points to the Brock Brothers, Billy Bob and Bubba Lou.

So she decided to order a burger and fries while waiting for them to finish their meal ... they nod at her and she feels everything is okay and is therefore relieved.

Her food comes out and she begins to eat. As she does Billy Bob and Bubba Lou finally finish their meals and push themselves away from their table ... each one ambling over to the smoke show picking their teeth and giving her the eyeball. They sit down beside her, one on each side, and decide to make their move.

Billy Bob reaches over and takes one of the fries off of her plate and begins licking on it with his tongue before sucking it down with a smack.

Bubba Lou uses the distraction to slide his soiled greasy hand onto her bare thigh while saying, "hey there purrrrdy lady ... so yew need yer tares changed hmmmm do ya?"

The shock of it all caused the smoke show motorist to suddenly gasp, and in doing so she mis-swallowed the bite of hamburger she had taken just before the brothers' advances. She began to choke and was flailing her hands towards her throat, in a panic ... her lips turning blue.

Upon seeing the distressed woman's predicament, Billy Bob let out a loud piercing YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAA! as he snatched her off her bar stool while grabbing her shoulders and yanking her head down toward his crotch.

At the exact same instant Bubba Lou yells with glee, "We finally got us one Billy Bob!" as he eagerly yanked down her delicate dark blue Halston knee skirt and dropped to his knees behind the desperate woman where he proceeded to run his tongue up her inner thigh clean up to her bare buttocks which he thoroughly gave a good wet slobbery tongue lickin' ... both cheeks.

The sudden sensation of the farmer's tongue on her arse caused the woman to lurch forward with a violent gasp that, miraculously, propelled the bite of hamburger into Billy Bob's Walmart work shirt with a dull thud.

Now free to breath, she huffed in disgust, reached down and pulled up her skirt then turned and ran out of the Esso Club half crying, half in shock, muttering and mumbling something no one could understand.

The two brothers did a couple more yeeehaaaaas and high fives before sitting down at the bar and ordering two PBRs in celebration.

The bartender, a Clemson fan himself naturally, serves up the brewskies and says, "on the house boys. Y'all saved that there woman's life."

Billy Bob chugs down his beer and looks over at Bubba Lou and says, " see there Bubba Lou. I told you one day we'd get a chance to try that there hiney lick manoover on a be-a-yewtiful woman! Worked like a damn charm too!"

Depends upon if you believe the Chinese or not. They're prone to talking out of turn. Let's just say, they embellish quite a bit.

If you could change the spin of one particle would the other particle’s spin change too? Even if they are seperated by a large distance.

If it was just that you didn't KNOW the spins, it wouldn't be interesting at all. It's that the spins are not yet DETERMINED until they are measured, which is when the particles are far apart. They are in a superposition of states before that. When you measure the one, you collapse its wavefunction and its spin is determined. Then, somehow, the spin of the other is also determined even though the information could not have traveled there in that time.

Yea that’s the way I understood it. It sure would be underwhelming if it’s how foshizzle describes it
