My mom and I stayed in Columbus, MS before my first semester at Mississippi State. Found a pair of dirty (for real dirty) boxers in the bathroom.

On the plus side, there was also a coaster with Antonio McDyess' autograph on it - so not COMPLETELY a bust.

I feel like a lot of these places could have been avoided if they were within the last 5 years or so... TripAdvisor is your friend. I'd rather stay an hour away from where I need to be than sleep in a shitty hotel. I just can't make myself do it. Grosses me out to think about.

I had some bad ones back before the travel websites got popular, too. Made the mistake of trying to split a long road trip into two segments... stayed at a Travel Lodge somewhere in Arkansas. Shower head broke off when trying to adjust it, ceiling was leaking in two places, and water was murky when I turned the sink faucet on. I don't even want to imagine what it would have looked like under a black light

2 reviews on Trip Advisor. One gave it a 5 and the other a 4.5

This couldn't be any further from the truth. Imagine a seedy, roadside motel with 30yr old mattresses, matted pile carpet, stains... stains EVERYWHERE!

I got NO sleep just imagining the # of bugs that would crawl up my nose or in my ears if I fell asleep.

Most horrendous motel/hotel stay of my life.

That would have been my exact experience

I bet those two high ratings were done by the owner or manager or something.

I was in a Best Western in Hammond. Room was awful. No phone so I called for one. I was told people steal them, so they removed them all. There was a list of everything in the room with a price, including furniture. It had a warning that if anything was missing, the guest would be charged. I also piled furniture in front of the door that night. Broken furniture. I didn't sleep much at all. Was so glad to get out of there.

Days Inn, Atlanta by the Airport. Flew First-Class and missed connecting flight home because of a passenger that had to be forcibly removed from the flight. That place was damn nasty and I was pissed that Delta put me up there to begin with. Come to find out, next morning, most of the coach passengers got to stay at the Renaissance and most of first-class got stuck at Days Inn. WTF?

On the bright side, they gave me an extra 25,000 miles....so it wasn't all bad.

The Brewton Inn in Brewton, AL. Started working for a new company and this was the place that they put me up in. It is really the only place to stay for work when in the area. Check in and go to room. AC would not work and was leaking onto the carpet with mold going up the wall. I get them to change my room and the next room has about 2,000 spiders in the tub and the door will not lock. I stayed there for one night and made the trek to Atmore, AL and stayed at the Hampton Inn. A couple of the guys ended up with bed bugs and had about $3,000 worth of tools stolen off of the trucks. I now make my own hotel reservations and will drive as long as I have to so that I am comfortable with where I am staying.

Days Inn, Athens, GA. Great downtown location, read a few bad reviews, but figured for three guys going to see an LSU game it couldn't be that bad. It was disgusting. I slept fully clothed on top of the covers. One of the other guys slept in the Yukon.

Super 8 Natchitoches

Hallways stunk and were very hot. Curtains in the rooms had holes in them and tons of burn marks on the sheets. Carpet was stained pretty badly. Mold in the bathrooms.

Just a nasty experience. Roaches were friendly though.

Had a room at the French Quarter Inn for two beds reserved for 2007 national Championship game.

First room had luggage in it and a person in the damn shower! Second room was totally trashed. Third room had only one bed for 4 of us. And the hotel was out of cots. No other hotel I called had vacancy at an affordable price.

I got the price more than halved, but felt so bad because I set up the hotel that I ended up sleeping on the floor allowing the others to have the bed.

Oh yea, the only window in the room was a 2x3 ft sky light that was so crusted with dirt on the outside you couldn't tell if the sun was shining.

Never stay there.

cavalier inn at UVA. Easily the worst maintained property I have ever been stuck in. I checked in extremely late on a trip with the boat or I wouldn't have stayed.

Stayed in a hotel in Decator GA with a restaurant attached. The only issue is that everyone was going through a metal detector before entering the restaurant...

Got my room key, went to room, opened the door, and there was a very attractive woman (probably around 30) changing clothes in front of the mirror less than 10 feet away. I saw her in all her glory.

I once stayed at a Kimpton in Washington DC and ordered room service.

When they brought me the meal it turned out they actually brought me wheat bread with my Eggs Benedict instead of an English Muffin.

Goddammit what the frick is wrong with these people ?

Alamo on Florida blvd in Baton Rouge 20 plus years ago. Didn't have a remote for the tv back then. After turning the volume up or down on the tv, my fingers smelled like rotten pussy. True story.
