Play your cards right, you wouldn’t have had to spend money on cd’s. Those crappy music clubs were my go to. Open up 2 or 3 different accounts get my free 12 cd’s then trade them for cd’s I actually wanted. In all fairness I had to trade 4 tapes to get the beastie boys tape I wanted but since I didn’t technically pay for any of them....
I used my money on candy/gum/treats that I would sell for a markup at school. Then I’d buy garbage pail kids cards.

When i was 9, way back in 1959, I saved up my allowance and what change I could find in the house to buy an $11 fiberglass, long bow from Sears. I got up to $9 and my mom pitched in $2. Me and my buddies slung those arrows all summer long and never hurt anyone or broke anything. Responsibility was built in. About three years later I did the same to buy .22 bullets (shorts of course) for my dad’s single shot. Again shot it all summer along the railroad tracks and trestles. Never put anyone’s eye out.

Define 'kid'? When I was a pre-teen in the 60's, I bought comic books and baseball cards. By the time I was 13, I became all in for music, started buying albums, something I still do at 63!

Ninja Turtles.
Aged out of them around the Dream Team and that era and switched to basketball cards.
Set up all my turtle gear at a garage sale with a $200 sign. Sold them quick and hopped on my bike to the card shop and spent it all.
In high school I spent my part time job money mostly on eating out, gas, and what not. My parents weren’t the type to give me cash for that.
