Spinoff thread... Why is wearing a hat inside considered wrong?

Probably because the point of a hat is to protect your head from elements so people probably don't view it as appropriate. I for one think that people wear them entirely too much in places that are more formal than a ball cap.

Edit: I couldn't give two shits about indoors I care more about the places some people wear them to.

Knowing when to remove a hat is as important as wearing the right hat for the occasion.

If you were a medieval knight who failed to remove his helmet or lift his visor and identify himself the consequences could be fatal.

Throughout history hats identified social standing and removing a hat was a gesture of respect. In the “old days,” men took off their hats in Christian churches, when they entered someone’s home, when greeting a boss, and always in the presence of a lady.

This is an ancient tradition going back to taking off your hat to honor your host and that he is lord of the manor. basically acknowledging that you are a guest and that you respect your host.

Except this isn't 1390s France and military rules don't apply to civilians.

And if you're getting your jimmies rustled over someone wearing a hat inside, then you should be taking some Preparation H for that serious case of butthurt.

This is why I wore one growing up a lot, my hair is pretty thin and the least bit of wind made it go all over the place. Now I buzz cut it... so it's no big deal. But I still like wearing a hat. I wouldn't wear it to church or any formal event... But I think it's silly for someone to act like it's a big deal to wear it inside.

I dated a girl who's dad was a Colonel in the Army... he didn't like it one bit. He also wouldn't let his daughter (21 at the time that lived with me) come down to see me cause she was wearing PJs. Mind you this was when I drove over on christmas eve to deliver the gift he and his daughter were going to give to his wife cause they couldn't find it in their town.

He was an a-hole.
