I got out of a meeting earlier and someone in my office (who doesn't pay too much attention to style) stopped me afterwards. He wanted to know why I tied my shoes "so goofy". These are just some light brown wingtips and I have them straight bar laced. He thought I was fricking with him and didn't believe that was a real thing.

This reminded me of the tie discussion yesterday and is sort of related in terms of some fashion etiquette that is slowly fading away.

I'm certainly not saying everyone has to tie their shoes a certain way. I really don't give a shite. But the fact that he hadn't even heard of this blows me away. Is it dying as well?

I don't think it's slowly dying out. It's just that some people don't want or are too lazy to do this everyday.

I did find it funny that he called you "goofy" over this.

I think my original question has been answered pretty clearly by previous replies. It looks like this for those who don't know.

My SO used to stare at me when I tied my shoes she thinks my technique is like a kids. I started tying my shoes young and as far as I know never changed technique. I start with crossed bunny ears.

Ted Turner never has lace up shoes - said two minutes a day every day adds up.

You'd be surprised at how many middle school kids can't tie their shoes at all.
