Once Detroit realized they were getting their teeth kicked in by the imports, they made some stunningly reliable cars in the 90's and 2000's.
Style was generally "Meh" but they were typically very reliable.

We inherited a 2000 or 2001 Chevy Cavalier from my wife's grandmother after she died. It had like 89k miles on it. I drove it nearly everyday to and feom work and put another 125k on it. Ended up selling it to a guy at work who gave it to his son when he turned 16. It was still running as far as I know when my old coworker passed away like 3 years ago.
