One guy flew to Vegas with a friend and $30K. He was in serious debt and this was his Hail Mary.

Some capper buddy gave him a tip: 3 games spread out early, midday and night that were guaranteed locks. The day was supposed to go: bet it all/collect 3x and turn $30K into $240K.

They landed early Saturday and he and the friend lay $15K each on the early game. It was a blowout the wrong way and his day ended before it started.

The other 2 ended up being easy winners.

..within 6 months, he was arrested for fraud.

Yes. A relative by marriage. Siphoned money from my grandmother's checking account a few times until my mom caught the discrepancy when balancing her checkbook afterwards.

I did.

Killed himself over $5,000. Only 5 grand. Obviously other issues at play but that was the catalyst for his final act.

Dude was popular too. Stud and cocksman in college. Kind of guy you thought had it all together. Obviously I being 19 at the time didn't know dick about dick.

It definitely tempered my groups college experience.

A cousin of mine was in way deep. He joined the Army to pay off his debts with the signing bonus. Since he had a business degree, they put him in the Finance Corps

I know several.

My ex S/O and I were friends with this dancer named "Misty" and her husband convinced her to move to Wasilla from Vegas because she was blowing 5-8k a month on gambling down there.

The dad of a friend of mine from HS lost everything they owned. He had a great job but still racked up $200K in debts due to gambling. My friend was older by the time it really hit the fan so it didn't mess him up too bad but his little sister and brother seem to have never gotten their lives on track over it. Of course, the parents divorced and they lost their house, cars, etc. His dad is a good dude too. Just couldn't handle his gambling. His company moved him here from Corpus and my friend always wondered if it would have been as bad had his dad not moved to an area with casinos so close but he had sports betting debt before they ever moved here.

I was in reno this week, and wednesday night I saw a guy blow about $1500 in 20 minutes at the craps table I was at. He just rolled up, put down several hundred and started doing low probability bets like horn bets, field bets, etc. Would lose it all, mutter "frick" under his breath, then back to the atm, then back to the table. Clean cut white guy in his 30's or so..not having fun at all. What would drive someone to do that on a wednesday night?

Scott Rogers lost upwards of $250k in one year at lauberge in baton rouge.
He played two slot machines simultaneously, nine dollars per pull. This "earned" him the use of a Mercedes owned by the casino.

I may not understand craps like I think I do, but I never understood why people waste their money on those.

Because he will win from time to time. Gamblers tend to only remember the times they've won and forget the times they've lost.
