My dad used to go full arse ninja mode if we returned home and he flipped on the lights and a roach scurried across the wall. Sounded like dem Japanese karate movies as he chased the roach with his church shoe.

Cockass roaches.
Spiders are cool mofos. Though, when I was young, I dreaded having to go into the pump shed to prime the pump when the electricity was off for a period of time. Had black widow spiders hanging around in there.
Worse when I was sweating. A bead of sweat creeping down neck had me wondering if a spider fell on my shirt.

mostly wolf spiders.
I made the mistake of trying to relocate one of these sumbitches. It was in my office, and I don't see the need in killing a harmless spider - so I was going to pick it up with a paper towel and put it outside.
Before I knew it, I had about 50 little baby spiders running up my arm and all over the place. I lost my shite.
To answer the OP, though, despite my encounter with the wolf spider - I'd much rather deal with spiders than roaches. If I see a roach in my room at night, I won't be able to sleep until it's dead.

I don't get the roach phobia. One comes up to me I'd just flick it away. I turn into a 7 year old girl when it comes to spiders, though.

Mice aren't bad. They happen every winter if you live next to fields.
Animals are natural. Annoying maybe but they happen.
Roaches are just awful

Aren't the flying ones actually beetles that look like a roach.

For me, it was:
1. roaches
2. giant horse flies
Lived in the country and them big bastards had a nasty bite.

Tell you what I got a new respect for scorpions too now after getting stung. That shite hurt like hell.

I really hate spiders. They scare the shite outta me and are always in my jeep. But roaches in my house are much worse.

Used to be those palmetto bugs/big arse roaches but spiders are moving up the list since moving in to this house.
Don't get jumping spiders here, just been huge wolf spiders and funnel web spiders.
Started during one of my first shits here.
(Background: I generally kick my clothes off and deuce in the nude.)
Since I just moved here all I had around me was tp, a plunger, and a bottle of Rid-X.
See something moving out the corner of my eye and this (one like this)
comes creeping in..
He is conveniently between me and my clothes.
I'm sitting there naked, midshit, and have a decision to make.
Go for tp... just enough to wipe.
Look at plunger... just used the day before, don't want poo on floor.
Bottle of Rid-X is last chance, launch it at him.
Missed.
He beelines for my pile of clothes. I spring off toilet, jump over him, lift clothes on counter, launch the bottle again and annihilate him.
Action moves have knocked said tp into toilet. FML and frick spiders.

The other night freaked me out. I turned the TV off and I heard a scratching, skittering, like a mouse in the walls. No big deal, it happens, they get in.
So I smack the wall. It keeps on.
I smack it again. I make noise.
Still the scratching.
I get up and turn the light on and this huge fricking roach is on its back in a plastic container, just flailing around
Damn, I thought this was going to end with you pulling it out of your ear. They tend to crawl in there at night while you sleep

Hate, hate, hate those bastards! I was taking a walk the other night and felt one biting my calf.

Have one of your fingers damn near rot off from three hits from a brown recluse and then come talk to me about roaches.
