It’s just so.. trashy/vanilla/bland/methhead/nothing

Every other state has at least one decent trait. What do they have? Lake of the Ozarks? St Louis? Haha

The KKK was founded first and foremost as an anti-Catholic, anti immigrant organization, but the focus on cultural purity is pretty fluid.

The KKK still has its annual conference in South Bend, IN every year. The city makes sure to schedule it over Christmas break so all the Notre Dame students and parents aren't in town.

Nope. Polaski, Tennessee

Nope again. Was founded by 6 former Confederate officers. And it was not first and foremost founded for the reasons this poster states.

It's amazing the amount of b.s. that gets taken as fact.

Rural Ohio and Pennsylvania is littered with homes flying the rebel flag

I grew up in rural Ohio. I can't recall ever seeing the Confederate flag flown.

Missouri and Kansas were arguably where it all started. The border conflict begat such luminaries as John Brown and Frank and Jesse James.

You're both right. The first iteration was as a Southern paramilitary response to Reconstruction. The second was as an anti-immigrant, and particularly anti-Catholic movement during the 1920s. This version was more of a political movement and had a broader geographic base. It again narrowed to a violent, underground, southern movement during the 1960s.

What town were you in? I'm talking to a company about going to work for them and if hired, I would have to spend 4 weeks in Neosho, for orientation and training. I've gotten mixed reviews about the area.

Neosho was the Confederate state capital for the Missouri Secessionist Legislature.

It's not a bad town as far as small rural towns go. 4 Weeks should be doable there.

Merwin, it's nothing but farm land. If you're in that area and use AT&T, be prepared to have little to no cell service. It was very spotty for me.

Correct.

The second incarnation was less fixated on black people because white supremacy was assumed in the 1920s (as opposed to emancipation and civil rights). The second Klan also had a large presence in areas where there weren't any black folk.

What a shame that the locals missed out on an opportunity to experience elite intellect and culture from someone such as yourself. But guess they just don't know any better..

I've always thought of Missouri as just like Arkansas.
At any rate, a good portion of Missouri is definitely Southern.

Were you in Jackson, Cass, Bates, or Vernon County? If so that might go a long way toward explaining the Confederate flags. Google "General Order No. 10" and you will find out why.

I am astonished by the ignorance of some of those who posted responses. The Civil War in Missouri did not begin and end as if someone flipped a switch. It started much earlier than Fort Sumter and ended much later than Appomattox. In Missouri a civil war is exactly what it was - and it was an intensely violent one. Learn some history, people.
