Do you have a clean driving record? If so, pay the fine and court fee, but politely ask the judge in writing if they could drop it to a non-moving violation, seeing as you have a clean record and cannot afford an increase in insurance premiums. If not, I really have no clue haha Had that work for me once in Iowa, LA. I was also a student at LSU at the time, and really couldnt afford any insurance increase, so that is what the city hall clerk told me to do. She said as long as I had a clean record it would be reduced. Got a letter stating it was reduced about 2 months later. Record still clean somehow.

I agree. Confession tools typically make swirling sounds as the pencil heads swivel up and down after each question.

Then you just enter a plea of not guilty and fight it. I have actually had my fair share of encounters with law enforcement in MS for speeding. This actually works better, than most of the other suggestions. Calling the DA will not do anything, because they will not tell you anything over the phone than the fine amount. Most of the time all you can do is talk to a clerk of courts, who will only know what the fine amount is.

What Trola said "Call and speak to the DA.. Explain the circumstances and if in a decent mood they will reduce to non moving"

I've done this in the past, all they want is the $$. They'll accept your guilty plea over the phone and send you a letter saying sum it xxx $, over and done with

If you get it reduced, you will probably still be paying the same fine. Just will not impact your record.
.
If it's not in your licensed state it may not even show up. I don't think that all the states are linked yet.
.
Had a wreck with a wreck less driving ticket in Az two years ago but it does not show up on my Louisiana MVR.

I'm surprised by how many people on this board love speed limits.

Studies have routinely showed that raising or lowering speed limits on both residential and mass transit roadways has no effect whatsoever on accidents, fatalities orimsurance claims. Lowering the speed limit DOES however cause a massive increase in citations, arrests and revenue.

The speed limit is nothing more than a way to collect funds and make it easier for police to catch those guilty of other crimes. It has absolutely nothing to do with safety and that's an objective fact based on research.

This, except just talk nice to his office stag that answers. 9/10 they will tell you to pay it and not file it against your insurance.

Yep. Speeding Kills Your Pocketbook

Some cops even get it. I was overtaken in the Mississippi delta outside of Clarksdale by a sheriff while going 85 in a 55. We were the only two people on the road for miles and he didn't seem to care that I was blatantly ignoring the speed limit.

OP, call the number on the ticket as ask to get it reduced while paying the fine. It's all about the money.

First I find it hard to believe you can be fired for one speeding ticket in your personal vehicle, unless of course this was not your first ticket.

Second, knowing you will get fired for speeding then speeding your arse off is no different than watching porn on the work computer.

I mostly agree, except for a couple points where you are speaking in absolutes. I believe raising or lowering speed limits probably has little effect on accidents, but only to a point. While it should be obvious that faster speeds are inherently more dangerous than slower speeds (we are dealing with more energy, after all), I think the bigger contributor to accidents and their severity is the speed differential between the slow and fast drivers. We all have our own opinions on what is the safest range of speeds for a particular stretch of road, so the safest speed limit should be the speed which falls in the range of the most drivers.

More dangerous only in the lethality of otherwise identical collisions, however this is compensated for by the fact that accidents are actually LESS common at faster speeds. This is due to the fact that there are far fewer driving variables on highways and interstates where speeds are the highest. By far the most common cause of accidents is running lights/stop signs. Speeding has no correlation whatsoever if you are otherwise obeying the traffic flow laws.

Call the DA's office in the county that you got the ticket they should reduce it to a non-moving violation if you're nice to him and not a jackass
