If you borrowed a car from me and got a ticket and did not pay it then I would never lend you anything again.

How much is your relationship with the car owner worth? $110?

I don't understand your thinking or morale standards.

You have now involved the car owner in your *sssholeness!

Because the ticket was cited to somebody else. Everytime you catch yourself for driving over the speed limit just mail your fine to the courthouse since you are breaking the law.

These tickets are nothing more than a tax revenue stream. They are civil violations. The worst that will happen to you is if that person whose car was ticketed ever comes to New Orleans, they could get booted. These tickets are a scam, a racket, and complete bullshite. Other than the possibility of getting booted, there are no other consequences. Circular file.

Thank you!

It's a bill not a ticket and these people are reaming me, I appreciate the advice.

Well, I would pay the ticket myself if I was driving a car in another person's name, regardless of whether I agreed with camera tickets or not. I believe that to be common courtesy. What I do with camera tickets I may get in my own car may be something completely different. Since it's my car in my name, I'm the one at risk, if any exists, but I don't put other folks in that sort of situation.

Because it's not a legitimate fine.

New Orleans can frick off and extort the people that are dumb enough to live in that pisshole of a city.

The city will take you to collections for not paying the speeding ticket so there are clearly other consequences

LOL

We only had red light cameras and those were out about a year after they were installed, after reading a few articles about the current lawsuits I hope you guys are heading that way too.

I'm just wanted some local opinions on the matter, and luckily yours and a few others were helpful. If we end up deciding ignoring the matter isn't what we want to do, I'm going to fight it. I'd rather pay more for a lawyer than give a handout and that way the uncertainty would be lifted from the car owner.

I have had multiple of these over the years and I have never once ever been threatened with collections. There is no debt or obligation incurred so there is nothing to collect. I have heard of people being threatened with credit reporting (not here) but all you have to do is dispute it, and it will be removed. Again, because you never agreed to pay anything.

I don't know what to tell you. We are in a situation like yours. Rent a car in Italy with another driver listed. He got 4 tickets for driving on restricted street for a grand total of 500.00. Camera bills. Took them a year to send it to us after obtaining our info from rental car place.
The OT told me to "Frick those Italians"
so we did. Not paying and have no plans to visit Italy again.

They are also going to add a fee for late payment after waiting a year to send the fines.

Yikes... I wish I had an ocean between my issue and I would be much more confident in not paying. I'll be back to new orleans...just not until I buy a new car

This is what I was hoping for, I knew the credit could be removed (since I didn't agree to pay like you said) but I didn't want to dig that hole and force the car owner to dig out.

Idk what to tell you..new Orleans will escalate this to collections.. Once that happens, you can call the agency to have it removed and they will take care of it for you. Until then, the letters will not stop and the fine will double.

Ops neighbor is not going to like that

That would be a supreme waste of time and money. Do what you want.

Have you even gone to the site on the ticket to see what the affidavit says regarding another person driving the car. Was there more than one person in the car at the time? If so, the owner may no know who was driving. I've never looked at the affidavit, but the owner has the option to contest by mail, but again, the affidavit could result in the owner having to lie. Just depends on how it's worded.

I contested by mail, but another person driving my car got the ticket in a school zone when school had been out for weeks. Easy to get dismissed and I didn't bother with the "another person was driving" issue.

The pay it and move on crowd is the reason these things exist. Everybody wants to talk big on this board about how they are for freedom and all that, but anytime that freedom inconveniences you, you cowar down and just pay. If I were the OP I'd do the same thing even if it cost me more. At some point you have to fight for what's right.

This is a small issue and yeah it's only $110, but that's how all this shite starts. You give the government bureaucracy an inch and they are going to stretch it into the miles long regulated tapestry of insanity we live in today.

Uh OP broke a law

There is no reason to go 10 mph over the speed limit anywhere in the city

This isn't some rolling on red bulshit ticket that they will tag you with.

The ticket was not sent to him! What do you not understand about that? If that's your logic then, again, Everytime you look down and notice yourself going over the speed limit mail a check to the same court house. The person that was cited is innocent and you do not have to self incriminate yourself so why should he just take the blame and pay?

That is my next step, I wanted opinions before I dug into what the laws actually say.

For your friend that got the ticket in the school zone, did it say in a school zone specifically on the ticket? I only remember driving by "photo enforced school zone" signs but school was out while we were visiting and I've been wondering if that's the case for me.

I bet if these people had cameras following them and got fines in the mail for all the laws they broke they wouldn't be so quick to say pay up.

For rocket31
I don't consciously speed, never gotten a speeding ticket. Since I was going exactly 10 over I feel like I missed a speed change sign, like I said I had never been to NO and drove around only during the instance this ticket happened.
