Hmm... My wife loves to be spanked and is very social. I call BS on this.

you do know that the studies also look at "bad arse kids" who do not get spanked, but get regular consequences.

Not spanking raises the risks of self-entitled, selfish little do-nothing pricks with no self discipline, no work ethic who just walk around protesting made up shite like white privilege and microaggressions.

Spanking could be effective if it was used infrequently, immediately after event, and with corrective feedback.

Unfortunately too many who spank do it out of anger, do it frequently, put way too much time before the event that deserves punishing and the punishment (e.g., wait 8 hours until dad is home, and don't provide corrective feedback.

this is the most accurate statement/opinion anyone can have on the subject ... if most adults followed this thought, their kids would need 1 or 2 spankings at the most, and they would be extremely effective ...

on a side note, i always think of the bathroom scene from the shining when talking about spanking ...

i ... corrected him, sir ...

There are certainly more effective alternatives that are less dangerous. However, many incorrectly assume that no spanking = giving children free reign without meaningful consequences.

Kids need an arse whippin from time to time. Builds character.

Teaches that violence is a legitimate option in conflict resolution. Look how many wife beaters and physically abusive people grew up in environments where this kind of behavior was accepted.

A plethora of data have been provided showing the negative effects of spanking. I'd like to see the data that supports your assumption.

exactly

The thought that there might be a difference in the type of kids who get spanked a lot vs. those who don't probably never occurred to these people.

When I got spanked for something I stopped doing it. bold idea I know.

89% of blacks spank their children. Might explain all that black on black crime. You might be on to something.

Time outs for err'body.

"Spankings" may increase undesirable behavior, but "arse-whoopings" tend to have the opposite effect

Uh, yes it did occur to them. They control for this as much as possible. They look at kids who have similar ratings of behaviors who get spanked vs. no spanked. They are not looking at Johnny Badass who gets spanked vs. Cub Scout Gabriel Student of the month who does not get spanked.

A similar study shows that sending someone to prison increases his chances of commiting further lawlessness.

For some reason, I doubt that this was a randomly controlled study that puts kids into the "spanking" arm or the study, vs the "timeout" arm.
