I cannot find the data of this particular study online. But there are many others from journals. The results have been pretty consistent with the OP for decades. The data does not support the belief that spanking does good

Spare the rod spoil the child.
I was spanked. My school performed corporal punishment with the paddle as well. I judge people who weren't spanked and don't spank. You are responsible for the decline in society

A plethora of data have been provided showing the negative effects of spanking. I'd like to see the data that supports your assumption.
That's because people who were spanked are actually providing meaningful contributions to society and not wasting time in a liberal fruity lab.

And THIS my friends is why psychology is quack science.
So. What they discovered is that children who get spanked a lot tend to be people who are less awesome as adults.
But, like good little psyche drones, they can't even consider the possibility that the spanking wasn't the CAUSE.
But hell. Let's go with their logic for a moment. What other factors did they examine?
I mean, is it possible that many children who get spanked more get spanked more because in general, they have parents who suck as parents??
I mean, I see plenty of bad parents who do a TERRIBLE job of parenting toddler types. These toddler types often grow into kids with no discipline. Then, frustrated parents spank.
So, a subset of your spankers are going to be cases where spanking is a RESULT, not a cause.
And, one could think of literally 100 other variables. Byt idiot psych folks think they can "control" for that stuff.

50 years, so sad.
Here's some common sense that takes 50 seconds to think about.
Bad parents generally raise bad kids and have to spank them more. All those negative effects come from the day to day bad parenting situation they were born into.
There is nothing at all wrong with a well timed purposeful spanking. If you do it right you won't have to worry about doing it often.

its just lazy parenting IMO
It's really not. It's a legitimate form of punishment if done correctly.

but its not effective, not near as much as taking away her favorite toy or making her sit in TO while staring at all her toys
Maybe not for her, but for some kids it is. I know it worked for me, and I'm the most social person I know.

Yes, they do consider that and even study and write about it. Parents who are harsh, demeaning, authoritarian, as opposed to authoritative, tend to spank more and raised poorly adjusted kids. The studies on spanking also include those and state there are other factors at play. It's all out there to take in. Before you make such comments, you actually might want to familiarize yourself with the field and data.

Spanking accompanied by discussion and understanding and love works. I spank my son and then we talk about what he did wrong and how he's going to improve and do better and always end it with a hug and I love you. He's the happiest care free 5 year old and he knows when to behave and when he can cut loose.

My daddy used to wake me every morning for my whooping, and while there were some bruises and stitches along the way, I can assure you folks that in my completely unbiased opinion, I turned just out just fine.

More than you'd imagine.
I have many parents tell me "spanking is the only thing that works". I ask then how much they spank and almost universally, they say a "lot...several times a week, a few times a week, all day everyday"". I then ask them, "if spanking works for your child, how come you find yourself spanking so much"? I have yet to get an acceptable answer. At that point, most of these parents have sort of an "ah'ha" moment.
