Not that there has to be a winner, we have GM/Ford, IOS/Droid, Mac/PC, etc.

SpaceX is on a roll and being very public. They are embracing being rocket cowboys in South Texas. Failure is good.

Blue Origin is taking the approach of secrecy or acting like a traditional rocket developer. Public failure is bad.

New Glenn sounds pretty awesome from Blue Origin, but you see no progress and they have yet to even launch an orbital rocket.

SpaceX Falcon has become a poster child for US rocket launches and Starship is launching a new test every month.

The media still seem to have a thing for Bezos and predict they are the eventual winner, many times using the Tortoise and the Hare story.

New Glenn - nothing but drawings

So far I'd say SpaceX is VHS and Blue Origin is BetaMax.

Elon is a superstar right now. He could revive project Orion which used the theory of nuclear pulse propulsion(lots of nuke explosions), and probably get approval.

It seems that way. NASA awarded BO with the moon lander contract, but BO also lost funding on another contract for US government (USAF) for failure to have a orbital rocket. Bezos is selling off $1Billion a year of Amazon stock to support Blue Origin since they are not bringing in external revenue.

SpaceX seems to be winning the GOV contracts now, but Musk is hoping for StarLink to truly support SpaceX. SpaceX was close to being out of money until NASA gave them a Christmas surprise a few years back.

The talking heads keep stating BO is backed by the Richest man in the world, so there. It is like Musk is poor I guess

SpaceX is like Tesla: They have a viable product that is already in use now.

Blue Origin is like the countless other EV startups: They have a promising concept, but it's just that, a concept.

Why don’t the muh global warming alarmist complaining about all these launches and their impact on the atmosphere?

True

If we could get constant 1G acceleration, the solar system would be ours.

Unrelated to topic, but didn’t SpaceX make a commitment to use Huntsville airport in some capacity as part of their future operations?

All of it ends up as that nasty CO2.

Blue Origin is trying to start with Space tourism. Their New Shepard rocket (the only working one they have) will take humans to the edge of space and back. $200,000+ for about a 11-15 minute experience. They competing against Virgin Atlantic on this and two completely different approaches.

The New Glenn will be a super heavy launch rocket based around moon destinations. Bezos wants to go there to get resources to make Earth better. He has a weirder long term vision of humans and animals living in space stations.

They are also following SpaceX and Starlink now with their Kuiper internet satellites.

Competition is good, BO just needs to actually do something besides launch phallic symbols

This is not true. Well not entirely. They won the contract as much as SpaceX won the contract. The final down select to two providers is to occur in April.

Also, Starship will reach orbit before New Glenn reaches orbit. Book it.

https://www.onegreenplanet.org

We’ve seen that methane, which accounts for only 14 percent of emissions worldwide, traps up to 100 times more heat than carbon dioxide over a 5-year period. This means that even though carbon dioxide molecules outnumber methane 5 to 1, this comparatively smaller amount of methane is still 19 times greater a problem for climate change over a 5 year period, and 4 times greater over a 100 year period.

That is probably the safest bet ever.

Musk has a driving force in him to put a person on Mars in his lifetime. Pretty sure that is how he wants to be remembered. Perfection though failure.

Bezos loves space and the stars, but I do not think he is searching for a legacy. He wants to build out a long term human plan of Utopia. It is not a wrong idea, but it is a little SJWish which is why there seems to be a lack of progress.

At this point Musk is NASA of the 50s and 60s. Bezos is NASA post Challenger.

Orbital and Northrop merged after Orbital-Aerojet fell out. Aerojet-Rocketdyne and Orbital ATK are the only manufacturers of solid rocket boosters...and there’s pretty much no way to get out of low earth orbit without those puppies. So IDK if it’s a two man race like the OP assumes. Many players in this fight.
