You know that HAS to completely embarrass a culture that's all about honor and being skilled at mathematics.

Here we are almost gloating that America can send a rocket into NEO and land it sitting straight up to be reused, while the Chinese are being lambasted by the world for losing control of their space junk

You know that just burns them up, and we'll see a shitty carbon copy of Starship in their future

That’s the thing with the Chinese. They didn’t invent anything new, they simply copied/stole versions of Russian technology. I don’t think they fully understand what they’re doing.

If I’m NASA, I send a clip of this to Bezos along with a note telling him to shove his lunar lander protest up where the sun don’t shine.

If I’m musk I put that note to Besos on a billboard… a billboard on the moon and/or Mars! Make the damn thing one of these electric ones that can be changed remotely with a live feed so he could tell anyone he wanted what he really thought! I’d love to have one of those!!

Bezos: ‘Yeah, but in my imagination I have one that will do even better so give my company the damn contract, or else no free shipping for you!’...

Yesterday marked a huge step in the Starship program. Prior to SN15, static fire attempts had multiple aborts, at least one Raptor swap had to be preformed between static fire tests, and obviously there were issues on relight for landing. There were a ton of upgrades to the SN15 vehicle and the Raptors for this test and they seemed to work. By no means is this a finished product but having a successful landing allows SpaceX engineers to fully inspect the vehicle and take apart the Raptors to see if there are any areas of concern. Additionally all TPS tiles stayed connected to the vehicle which was an area of concern as they are mechanically attached rather than with an adhesive like other TPS tiles.

I'm hearing SN16 and SN17 will be 20km flights. If those perform nominally SN18 and SN19 will be skipped and SN20 is going to be the first fully integrated Starship Super-heavy with an orbital attempt 3rd quarter of 2021.

ETA: Conflicting information from a couple of guys I know, one says engine 3 had issues and the vehicle didn't attempt to relight it for the landing. Another says the upgrades negated the need for a 3 engine relight on landing flip. Either way, SN15 did flip and land on 2 Raptors.

I'm putting that flight on my schedule as out of office. The full Starship rocket stack DWARFS Saturn V. Watching the first time that big fricking rocket lobs that giant spaceship into orbit's going to be an event.

It's something like 11 million pounds in mass all up for a Starship stack versus 6.5 million pounds or so for the Saturn V.

When we're talking about thrust produced, it's not even close. Super Heavy is going to produce between 16 and 17 million pounds of thrust versus the paltry 8 million pounds the diminutive Saturn V produced.

Curious to see whether the fire after landing is related to what happened on SN10 or if it’s something else. They’ll need to address that over the next few tests.

I just asked and will report back. Pure speculation on my part says that it's something else as 10's was due to a tank rupture from a rough landing.

ETA: No response on the fire yet but SN16 has at least one aft flap mounted. Expect a roll out to the pad next week.

It’s on my bucket list to see one of these things in person. It’s unfortunate how susceptible to delay/cancellations launches are. Maybe over time they will get more and more frequent and predictable.

If Musk has his way, these things will be launching multiple times a week, perhaps per day. It'll be hard to miss them if he's right.

I don’t mind the Rocket look, but it sounded like the announcers are from a teen MTV game show!

I’ve just gotten word from one individual and I’m not sure if it’s a joke or not so I was hesitant to post. Looks like everything with 15 was great so progress towards orbit is accelerated. NET mid June. Hopefully I’ll hear back from the other guy soon.
