There are plenty of 1200 sq ft fixer uppers available for a hell of lot less than $500k. Try living somewhere that isn't one of the hottest market in the country.

Um it's more like the price of ownership is outrageous today while boomers were able to afford mansions while working at the local train yard
Think a little
1. You need to look at the average house a boomer was living in while "working at the local train yard" compared to the average square footage of today's homes.
2. Property prices depend on regional location. Just because you want to own a home in San Francisco or the NYC area doesn't mean all property prices are "outrageous".
Think a little indeed.

It might be absurd where you live (or want to live), but it's certainly not absurd in a good chunk of the country.

I've owned a house before dude. I lost thousands doing so because I needed to move.

And now we get to the root of the issue:
You want to own a home near the downtown/social hot spot of an urban area, but then cry like a little baby when you can't afford it.
Congrats on being the poster child for SFP's article.

No. I don't want to get burned on this housing bubble dumbass

sacrifice is a a lesson this generation clearly doesn't understand. You can't always get everything you want and that's the way it has always been. You want to live in the "cool" part of town in a hot area, prepare yourself for the cost of homes there. If you want to own a house and can't afford the "cool" area, prepare yourself for a drive to do "cool" things, or you can live in a city that is slightly less "cool".

I want to own on the cool part of town but buying a house there at this current period in society would be beyond ignorant
And no I'm not going to live in the sticks with dumbass rednecks and they're fat wives

Google Earth! Can visit anyplace in the word and enjoy street level views in a virtual traveling environment. That and a good imaginarion is a wonderful adventure in itself.

So your answer is to leave the city that is best for my career in order to find more affordable housing in good neighborhoods?
My whole point was that we live somewhere where it isn't easy to find what that poster said to get. Your proposed solution is unrealistic for most people.
"Just move to a new city bro!"
It's not like I live in downtown Manhattan.

Sounds like a personal choice to me. So I fail to see why you're generalizing that anyone buying property is stupid and that the market is outrageous?
It may be stupid for you and outrageous in the market you live/want to live in, but you're just one person.

It doesn't sound like this job is that great considering you can't even buy a house.

Like me living in the fricking ghetto so we can have an affordable home without a massive commute? Oh I'm sacrificing.

While I love Nashville, I'm here because it is the hub of healthcare in America and that is what my career is in. I don't have the same career opportunities in "less cool" places.

I don't live in Alabama. And I live seven minutes from downtown. And I own a home. And I didn't pay an "outrageous" price for it.

As with car maintenance, however, the idea that a man owns his house and should therefore know how to take care of it is increasingly an outdated concept.
