I work in aviation specifically for a major airline that has seen our bookings increase by 22,000 between 2300-0600 overnight.
This is due to SWA pilots using sick time before they are terminated for not being vaccinated in November.
Additionally ATC (specifically Miami facility and others across Florida) are having large amounts of sick outs. Why they’re “randomly” all calling out sick is for you to figure out.
Shocker, most people are against vaccine mandates, and people are fed up, especially those with a strong will and bargaining power like Pilots are standing up. If Delta mandates it…expect the same.

Over 1,000 southwest cancellations on the day, 27% of their daily total it appears
Posted on 10/10/21 at 8:51 am to CuseTiger
Yep. Could rise to 1400 or so flights.

Curious, given this mess on Southwest, would you suggest booking on another airline such as Delta within the month of October? I don't see this getting any better

Meh
They’ll just be replaced with new Afghan and Haitian refugees
shite, the Biden admin may try that with the pilots as well.

I probably would, yes. The problem with Southwest is, they don’t have many interline agreements. So if you’re flight is cancelled with them, you have to pay full fare (or SWA does) to get you on another airline.
Delta is operationally the best airline, however the Pilots are very disgruntled with the company and about to start negotiations on a new contract. DL hasn’t mandated the vaccine…yet. Regardless air travel is going to be a mess over the next several months.

Yeah, I was thinking that'd be the right call for helping people out on here but completely forgot about the interline point, thanks
Had no clue about the pilots issues within DL but I'm not surprised. Past year and a half has been very stressful for a lot of people. One solution is I usually try and bring on a gift (gift card, snacks, 4th of July cupcakes) for the flight crew

DL pilots not happy with working conditions, plus outsourcing of a lot of international routes to codeshare partners.
Next time you fly notice majority of pilots rocking lanyards that say “STOP OUTSOURCING DELTA CAREERS.” Lol

Youre just referring to mainline right? We still have the luxury of flying the CRJ-200s, 700s, and 900s cross country at least

Stop. Just stop. It has nothing to do with vaccinations or walkouts. I know you want this to be the case but it's just not.
Well explain to us children then since you have the answers

Pilots union has said they are unaware of any protests at this time, but that they are ok with employees showing disapproval of the mandate.
Even if not a pilot sickout, doesn’t explain the wide reports of a lack of SW staff at ticket counters and the likes.
