Rockstar Complex hit it on the head. You pay the extra money for early bird but they let 10-15 handicap people in first, then they let families with small children in, then its A. Wtf are we paying early bird for?
False. Families go in between A & B

The pre boarding shite is absurd but all they would have to do is not allow those lazy fat fricks to sit in the first row and that would solve a lot of the problems. I’m a-list so I board early and there is nothing that pisses me off more than when I board and the first row is taken.
With that said, I would live to quit flying them, but I rarely know when I’m returning so it’s great to know I can always change my return flight, simply pay the difference in the fare, and always get an aisle seat.

Providing a variety of snack options isn’t some obscene suggestion. Every other airline does it. And I’m not bitching. This is a thread about changes SW is considering, and I am merely providing a suggestion which would enhance the flight experience. This is America god damn it. You should have every right to get sauced at cruising altitude just I should have every right to a variety of snack options provided.

And I would lump the boarding process and all the jetbridge jesus' as the assigned seating issue.
This is a huge problem.

So freaking many. It really is baffling to watch. It's a list made up by Karens.

Sounds like they are keeping the free checked bags, which helps keep the overhead bins from filling up like on the legacy carriers.
Be curious to see how the handle first class as their other product upgrades were the cheapest in the industry for Internet etc.
People complaining about Southwest with long layovers is sort of surprising. They almost exclusively fly non stop routes. You can elect to take layover options and used to be able to just sit on the plane at the stop without getting off. I wonder if this is just a product of their service out of New Orleans, which admittedly I have never flown into.
Also Alaska airlines is the only airline that loads back to front. Not sure it actually helps that much

Impossible to do this if you fly with kids

And also unfair to those in the front of the plane, as all overhead bins will be taken.
Front to back is fine if you have semi competent flyers and a FA staged mid-cabin directing people. Telling them not to put backpack in overhead and under seats.

Infuriating. When my mom was still battling cancer and flying to MDA in HOU every 6 weeks, it really became an issue on SW. She needed to preboard legitimately, but 70% of the flight would preboard, so it made it difficult on her.

I agree with diat - they're usually the most expensive option for me

Aside from the boarding and trash, which I believe the boarding process invites, they really aren't bad.
Best rewards programs in the industry
Always on a 737 (no pond hoppers)
And so many regular flight options in the Southeast. Great customer service. And I feel they are really good about boarding/deboarding compared to their peers.
Yes, there are some trashy folks, but I can put up with that for the overall consistency and items listed above.

This is bad. Can't believe they haven't done something about this yet.
I was A3 last week and was like the 20th person on the plane. They don't let the preboarders get exit rows though usually, but still. Probably 15 of these people were abled bodied adults. I have no idea how they pulled it off.

Unfortunately, people are starting to abuse some of the "rules" for boarding.
Last flight a few weeks ago out of New Orleans, there were close to 30 people of all ages that came up to board as "a family". Maybe 3-4 children in the group, yet they insisted they were family and all together. 4 of them had paid for boarding for the first 15 rows.
As those 4 got on, they quickly grabbed a few seats and saved seats for all of those 'family' members to use what others had paid extra for.
Flight attendants tried to remedy this but gave up knowing it was not worth it. Total BS.

I have never felt such disdain for "handicapped" people as I do when waiting in line at a SWA gate. Absolutely infuriating and damn near every instance will have a handicapped version of the same woman and family I see early boarding every other SWA flight. That shite needs to change as part of this larger boarding change...doesn't seem other airlines have the same issue.

One thing I've noticed is people have started to completely ignore the boarding pass order and attempt to board the plane before their place in line. I saw a group of 4-5 people attempt this who I assume thought the attendant at the tunnel scanning passes couldn't count or didn't know their ABCs.

That is what confuses me so much. The trashy folks who normally abuse the pre-board system stay solely to SW when other airlines are often cheaper.
I can speak from experience with both SW and United hubs here. United is cheaper 75% of the time, but never has preboarders.

Completely depends on several variables. It can be $60 at a kiosk and $20 at the gate. It can also depend on the level of ticket you originally purchased, etc.
I used to fly Southwest 4x times a week and still can't figure out that algorithm. I've asked the employees a couple of times and they don't know either

Of course I would only ask for my wife because I was the highest priority they had. She would get a companion pass but the boarding position wouldn't be great and I hate saving seats so I'd upgrade her.
