No, that’s the velocity. For a debris signature you need to look at the correlation coefficient.

Sorry y'all. I'm not posting much on the AR storms. I've had one bearing down on me.

You gotta look at cc for debris sig right?

If you have two panels, put the top one on Velocity. Put the bottom on Correlation Coefficient. Use your pen and circle the rotation couplet. See if it correlates with what you are seeing on Correlation Coefficient. If so, that's almost always a dead giveaway a tornado is down.

CC but also high reflectivity in the hook.

CC on this one is a mess because the radar beam from Little Rock is trying to get through the hail core. So CC has been pretty useless.

It's had high reflectivity in the hook pretty much it's whole life but there's a bunch of dumbass storm chasers right in the path of the hook so we'd know if it was on the ground.

Usually. Sometimes, with strong rotations, it will show up on Reflectivity. That's called a debris ball.

No worries. Velocity is just showing you wind direction and estimated speed. It won’t pick up in debris. Reflectivity (the standard radar product) can sometimes pick up on debris with the bigger tornadoes. The correlation coefficient is the main way to look for debris with radar, though, because it separates debris from hydrometeors (rain, hail, sleet, snow, etc.) which is why it’ll appear as a little blue/green spot in the midst of a bunch of yellow and red on the CC.

Brad Arnold was sitting directly under the meso on the southern storm in NW AL. Right under it.

These new in game localized mesoscale discussions from SPC are so dumb. It's like they're bored at the office and want to get in on the action the local FOs are supposed to be doing.

Yeah, I agree it’s kind of weird that they now do MD’s for individual storms.

There's some talk NOAA wants to restructure and have the SPC issue warnings and take that away from FOs to make warnings issuance uniform across the board. Some FOs suck, some are really good. SPC issuing those localized MDs could be step 1 of giving them more control over warnings.
