Hopefully law is a family business for him.

Fortunately he won't be out much money since southern is so cheap

LSU has a bar passage rate of 78% and SU has a bar passage rate of 41% for the LA bar.

Now that certainly is affected by LSU having better students, but in this case with an "average" SULC grad the odds are stacked against you to make it through the bar.

I would argue that it is not just affected by LSU having better students but that it is solely based on LSU having better students. To clarify, I'm not suggesting that someone should choose to attend a shitty school; I'm just saying that from personal experience, I graduated law school less prepared for the bar exam than friends who attended lower tier schools. I took BarBri over the summer and ended up passing easily, but I'm looking at this purely from a "readiness for the Bar upon graduation" perspective.

slight hijack, my son made a 186 on the LSAT, will graduate with a GPA of about 3.4 Does he have a chance do get a decent scholarship for LSU law. my savings account wants to know

If he made a 186 he should be looking at tier 1 schools unless he absolutely wants to practice in Louisiana. Even then, I would heavily consider looking at better schools than LSU.

Six points higher than perfect. Impressive.

OP tell your friend to retake and just bubble in C all the way down. He'll probably get higher than a 143 then.

If we're making up numbers, why not just say he made a 1,000,000?

I was really confused since no one else is pointing out that score is impossible.

Unless the scale has changed recently, the 186 means that he scored perfectly and got some bonus questions right. He should just apply to Yale and use Harvard as his safety.

We will probably have to agree to disagree here since we don't have any actual evidence either way. I just don't see how going to a crummy school with worse professors, administrators, and peers makes you more bar ready.

I thought it looked weird. I forgot 180 was a perfect score.

Better Call Saul... He went to University of American Samoa. Worked out for him, except his real lawyer brother thinks he's a dipshit.

You know what you should do? Go get a phone book and look up "attorney". Pinch all the pages together.. the whole section, and see how many there are. Then find a new career.

Either way, look at the link I posted last page. That should give you resolution. A 168 and a 3.4 is a high probability to make it into LSU.

That's still a good score. Depending on his other factors, if he really wants to go to law school, he should be at least looking at some better schools than LSU.

His score is the average LSAT for Southern. Problem is, he also has the average GPA,

Tell him not to go to law school.

Because a few weeks of memorizing stuff from handouts and watching videos of random professors reading from powerpoint slides made me more "bar ready" than 3 years at a pretty good law school. If my professors had just focused on having us memorize the things on those BarBri slides instead of trying to teach us law, I would've been better prepared to take the bar without BarBri (but a worse lawyer).

Also, I should point out that I'm talking about the Texas Bar.

I'm also barred in Texas (though LA law school), so our experience were probably pretty similar.

I don't think getting in is the problem. Was wondering more what it took to get scholarships.
Thanks
