He may get some scholarships. The issue isn't necessarily getting scholarships, but your son needs to do well during 1L year to keep them.
Everyone thinks they will crush law school, but the curve basically dictates some percentage will lose them after 1L year.

And the schools use this to their advantage.

Yyyyuuuup. They are serious bait for muddling students to go to expensive law schools and pay full price for two years.

Tell him to apply as a socially persecuted genderqueer homosexual and he will get a full ride into Stanford.

162? Try Alabama or Georgia.

If his LSAT and GPA are both "average", why does he think law school is for him?
hard work pays off. he can get a couple of decent study buddies too.
if he wants it bad enough, he can make it. less beer and football, more time focused on career.

Heck yeah. Really play up the "from a backward Southern state that doesn't accept the way he was born" angle.

He will get accepted most likely

Admissions offices can't help but cream over it.

Average would be a step above several of the attorneys I know, and they are not Southern grads.

If he wants to go out of state but stay in the south sure. Bama and Georgia are ranked higher, but if you want to stay in Louisiana, I'm not sure if there's any value in going to Georgia or Alabama.

Average for Southern is well below actual average for legal profession.

He wants to say in La. may have some job advantages here.

LSU is definitely the best value if you're dead set on practicing in Louisiana, but for whatever it's worth Georgia and Bama are both ranked like 50 spots higher than LSU.

UGA has a great system where you can get instate tuition for the 2nd and 3rd years even if you've never lived in GA before.

Thanks, looking at all options

I've met plenty of lawyers in New Orleans who came from non-Louisiana schools. New Orleans is a diverse city and it is where the best jobs In Louisiana are. I don't think applicants from LSU are the first on their list. Its law school is stagnant and hardly improves. In fact, as long as he passes the Louisiana bar, I think he would actually fare better in getting a job if he went to a higher ranked school no matter where it is.
Applicants from higher ranked schools get looked at a lot harder. And the culture at LSU Law isn't a very good one, imo. I would take my chances at Alabama or Georgia.
