Nice...

Tell 'em just to have fun. (Lights camera action).

If he likes/loves baseball, find a baseball cage so he can get his cuts in...and maybe find other guys to get together with and find a baseball field. If you get 3 guys (including you for now), you're golden (Batter, pitcher, first base, second base covered.) If you can't find the time to toss the ball around with him, that be great. (You don't have to be "baseball people" -- when my Dad got the gloves out it was always real special. Your guy won't ever forget that either.)

Pretty cool. Mines 15 now, but all the games have been fun.

Wish he climbed it more. Someone has been though, had to really crank down one of the holds.

Throw out a few …. “That a boy” and “ come on blue” and you’ll fit right in

He played tee ball and hasn’t played since, he’s 13 now and playing on a private Jr high school team.

He's gonna be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind, so just expect that.

He'll probably play only outfield.

Sit down the 3rd base line and away from the rest of the parents. (note: not because of the above. It's just much more fun staying away from the drama)

Whatever happens in the games, tell him on the way home "I love watching you play" - everything positive. Everything in front of you.

I'm so glad all of that shite is behind me, parents have ruined the joy of kids playing sports

I am going down a rabbit hole of fights at youth sports, its unbelievable how many videos they have of parents acting like complete idiots at youth sports events. Here is a football game.

its not unbelievable in any means possible. its human nature of parents and parental instincts to defend their kids through their obvious lens of distorted realities in a competitive environment.

Sit there and enjoy. Learn all the kids names, and cheer for them. Don't boo the bad calls, and don't question coaching decisions. Just enjoy it. Keep in mind, he's several years behind his teammates in learning the game. He won't look like the others very often, and that's ok.

Most importantly, and something not enough parents understand, there's only 1 thing you need to say to your kid after a game. "I love watching you play ball"
Nothing more. Especially for non baseball people. Everything he needs to hear about the game, he's gonna hear from coaches.
