The Aging Rebel is saying come of those charged in last year's Waco Twin Peaks shootout are having their charges dropped....

quote:

After 320 days, charges were dismissed today against 39 defendants who were arrested, imprisoned and shamed after last May’s Twin Peaks Massacre.

According to a press release issued by Houston lawyer Paul Looney of the firm Conrad & Looney: “The extended term of the grand jury expired last night at midnight. Judge Strother met this morning with DA Abel Reyna, Assistant DA Michael Jarrett and I. The judge agreed he did not sign an order to continue the prosecution of the unindicted cases and because that grand jury’s term has expired without an order extending the prosecution…the prosecutions against the 39 unindicted bikers are terminated by operation of law and their cases are dismissed.”

But according to this article, these people's ordeal might not be over yet....

quote:

WACO, Texas (KWTX) A Houston-area defense lawyer and the McLennan County district attorney were at odds Friday over whether 38 remaining unindicted cases against Twin Peaks bikers have been dismissed.

Attorney Paul Looney says he met with DA Abel Reyna, assistant DA Michael Jarrett and State District Judge Matt Johnson Friday morning.

He said the outcome of the meeting was that because there were remaining cases that had not been indicted and the grand jury hearing the Twin Peaks cases had reached the end of its term without being extended, as an “operation of law” the remaining cases were dismissed.

Looney said in a press release that his unindicted clients, Morgan and William English of Brenham, “have been released from bond with no charges pending” because the term of the grand jury was not extended.

Reyna took issue with Looney’s statement about what transpired during the meeting Friday, during which, Reyna said, "we all agreed that regardless of the operation of law, the state was not prohibited from presenting the remaining cases to a different grand jury."

“We have not filed any dismissals in any of the remaining Twin Peaks cases,” he said.

”Furthermore, any McLennan County grand jury can hear evidence on this matter and decide to issue additional indictments,” he said.

Just one more strange twist in the saga that is Waco I guess.

they're not dismissed at all

there are procedures in place to hold people until an indictment. if that indictment doesn't come, then they get released

the charges can still be filed within the applicable statute of limitations, but until that point, they can't hold the people in jail

It's still an ongoing story. If you're not interested in it please feel free to not click on any thread about it. There's plenty of other threads here to choose from.

Why don't you just update one of the 15 threads you've started about the same incident? Maybe you could request a sticky for this burning topic.

What difference does it make if it's a bumped thread or a new thread?

I see no need for a sticky.

You think?

You may literally be the only person here that cares about every little facet of this thing still.

There's no boobs, it isn't funny, shocking, controversial.

It's mundane court proceedings of a tired subject at this point.

Stick to military and history threads Darth. You're pretty damn good in those.

If you can type out you location I'll be glad to send over the PD to free you from whoever is there holding you hostage and forcing you to click on this thread.

And for the record, the last thread updating the Waco story that I started was on January 22 at 10:42 AM.

Do you know that this is the 12th thread that you've started about this Waco biker shootout? Maybe you should put together one of those conspiracy websites so that the 2 people that give a shite can view all the relevant information.

Thank you. Despite the trolls and detractors, this is still a pretty big and messed up story when you take time to look at it objectively.

Darth, I'm not sure if any of the motorcycle blogs you read have posted it yet, but NPR has a new podcast called Embedded, and the next episode is about this incident

Do you know this is your 4th post just one one page bitching about this thread? Give it a rest, I get it. You don't "care" (even though it seems like you or you'd have moved on by now).

But seriously, there's gobs of other threads just one page one here. Go play in one of those if you don't "give a shite" about this story.

You don't see me going into threads that I'm not interested in just to whine and bitch about there being a thread on the OT that does not suit me.

Hey Darth, not trying to nit pick, but you should probably put "don't" in quotes because you're implying that he does. It's never in question whether or not him caring is the focus of your point, it's whether he does or does not that you're questioning.

Just some supportive pointers.
